Jasper didn’t want me to leave the protective bubble that was his home on Sunday night. We had spent our week off hanging out, I was hardly home and I didn’t have an encounter with him once. I felt safe, and at home, and it wasn’t just because I was in a safe place it was because I knew Jasper would protect me if something would happen, even if I was at my home. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow?” he suggested “Before school?”
“Yeah sure,” I checked the time it was nearly 11,
“You could stay again,” he promised me, he had been so kind. After capturing my phone on the first day he had text Tess telling her that I’d speak to her when we got back to school and didn’t let me see the, apparently, thousands of messages and missed calls from Mattie. But I couldn’t put off for much longer.
“Its fine, I’m more scared about tomorrow than going home,” I admitted as I leaned against the door frame and Jasper had a cigarette
“Don’t be afraid of tomorrow,” he grinned a puff of smoke rising in the air between us “No one will dream about saying anything to you,”
I raised my eyebrow at him “Is that you’re effect on people?”
Jasper just continued to grin “It can be, if you want?”
“No, you don’t have to threaten people to get them to like me Jas,” I sighed dreading the morning
“You’re being ridiculous if anything it will be everyone defending you against them,” he promised “Don’t worry about it,”
“Right,” I stepped into the cool night “You know you should really give up smoking,”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, Gi tells me the same thing whenever she come over,” Georgia boarded at the Prep-school so she could be close to her friends, even though I couldn’t help thinking Jasper needed her more than they did sometimes. He was just simply lonely. I headed down the steps to my car “Goodbye then,” he called after me, I turned to see him grinning and stuck out my tongue to him before slipping into my old banger and drove down the drive.
The house is too quiet. I knew dad would be in bed but I couldn’t help but think he’d be waiting. I checked the Living room and the kitchen and found nothing so went to bed with a sigh of relief. Safe for another night.
As promised Jasper picked me up in the morning before school, I didn’t realise how scared I actually was until he pointed it out “You’re shaking,” he stated, he had his relaxed smile on his face as he drove, he loved to drive, it was one of the many things I had found out over the past week about the school’s resident bad boy.
“I just haven’t had sugar,” I pulled a face and Jasper rolled his eyes as he pulled onto the road
“Ok, the plan, look fierce,”
“You know I can’t pull that off,” I quickly butted in
“Fine look like you don’t give a fudge.” He still didn’t swear on my behalf, which was sweet.
“Then what?” I wondered with a smile on my face
“Punch Douche in the face and stick with me,” Jasper grinned
“My plan was to act as normal, smile and be nice, if I see Mattie turn around and walk in the opposite direction,”
Jasper seemed to think this over “Ok, maybe that’s a more Annie-like plan,”
I laughed softly looking out of the window as we arrived at school; people stared at Jasper’s car like usual, then when I climbed out everyone’s eyes seemed to widen. “Maybe I should have taken my car,” I whispered to him as I pulled my bag onto my shoulder
