I blinked my eyes open. Then quickly closed them again. It was too bright. Why was it so bright? I was sinking into a bed that wasn't comfy, with scratchy sheets under my hands, I wondered why one side of the bed was softer than the other and why was it holding my hand? I was so confused. I let my eyes flutter open but could only see the white ceiling. What is this place? I wasn't religious but if this was heaven then why were the sheets so scratchy and uncomfortable? Nope, it couldn't be heaven. I could hear a constant steady beep that was annoying and I unfortunately knew where I was. As well as the beeping I could hear someone crying quietly in the corner, a manic pacing that was almost frustrating and a soft breathing by my ear. I concentrated on the breathing, blowing a soft warm breath on my cheek. I was tired.
When I woke again the room was thankfully dark, the beeping continued. The rest of the room was silent but I felt someone by my side. I wanted to turn my head to see who it was but ached too much to move right away, so instead I tried to tell who it was by their breathing. Jasper. I concluded after a seconds thought. I let my eyes fall close again. I was safe.
"Please wake up," I heard someone begging me gripping my hand in both of theirs. I found my eyelids too heavy to open but felt awful that they were so sad. I felt something wet fall onto my hand and with all my strength gave the hand holding mine a squeeze and there was a little noise of surprised "Annie?" It was Jasper. He was still here. Why was he still here? I slipped back to sleep.
