“What are you doing?” he asked, his booming voice echoing through the quiet house, my hand began to shake, the knife in my hand shining.
“J-just putting it back,” I slipped it back into the holder hands still shaking as I did “Cleaning up,” I added. Continuing to the sink to start washing dishes, I glanced at him to see if he was still there. Watching. Waiting.
“Where have you been all day?” There wasn’t a slur in his voice or a wobble in his step as he came towards me
“School, then I took a drive,” I answered honestly. I was slammed into the wall. I didn’t know what I had done wrong but I went with a crunch that I really didn’t want to hear. “What did I do?” I gasped for breath seeing his face in front of my as he picked me up by the throat
My father simply shrugged “Nothing,” but I didn’t notice what he said his grip tightened and I tried to pry his hands from my throat. I closed my eyes tight and hoped for the end. A punch to the stomach and I was suddenly flying across the room, there was another crack and I cried out with pain. There was a laugh as I gasped for breath. Then my ringtone. I reached into my pocket hoping I could get to it before he did.
I pressed answer not looking at the name, simply knowing who it was. “Jasper,” I gasped “Please,” the phone was kicked and I heard it smash against the far wall
“Who was that?” He screamed picking me back up again “Who?” he shook me but I could hardly breathe never mind talk
“Jasper,” I managed to gasp out of pain Think of him. Think of Jasper. Hero. My Hero. My. He threw me again like I was discarded piece of rubbish on the street. Jasper. Please. I didn’t know what I hit but it hurt, more punches. A sharp pain in my side, was that a punch? It couldn’t be it was too sharp; there was too much red gooey stuff. There was more commotion but it wasn’t around me, if I could just open my eyes. I managed it after what seemed like forever. Jasper. Why is he crying? Bad boys don’t cry.
He was holding my side and weeping like someone had died
“You’re going to be ok,” he promised “They’re on their way, the ambulance, they’re coming,” he held me against him “Don’t die,” I wanted to laugh at him. I’m fine! Don’t be silly! I’ll be fine in the morning. What was with my eyes? Why was I getting so sleepy “Stay with me Annie,” I’m here I’m not going anywhere.
