The Lost Exile: Hiriya's Lost Memorial

Chapter 2.10 The First Lesson

As The White Beast turned to the students, he threw back the hem of his cloak.  As he scanned the class to see if everyone was focused, he could see the girls all somehow in a state of bliss. Then he saw Hiriya and Alicia. Alicia wasn’t as clingy to Hiriya as before, but still clingy. The White Beast hid a small smile and began his lesson.

“Elimination. As you should know from your first year curriculum, it is the act of eliminating a Judgement with a team of top students from the third years. Since the incident from last week, the principal has decided that this is now required for all years to know as a way of self defense. Now I’ll go over the various basic elements and how to handle such an Elimination when it occurs.”

The White Beast raised and opened his right hand. Six small orbs of fire, water, wind, earth, light and darkness respectively appeared and circled clockwise above his palm. The class stared attentively at the spiraling orbs.

“Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Light and Darkness. These are the six elements that bring about the other mix of sub elements. Wind and Light gives Electricity, Water and Earth gives Wood, Fire and Water, Steam and so forth. As you should realize, most of you can only use one type of EM (Elemental Magic), be it basic or sub. Another thing that you should have understood is that stronger elements can cancel out weaker ones, furthermore, weaker elements at a stronger level of control can cancel out stronger elements of a weaker caliber.

Fire is weak to Water is weak to Earth is weak to Wind is weak to Fire. These are the primary weaknesses. Sub elements can change these basics to better counter the other elements. For instance, Electricity turns the weak Wind into a neutral state against Fire. This is because basic elements also have different basic uses, Fire focuses on damaging opponents, Water is versatile between defending and attacking, Earth is more centered on defense and Wind is also a very versatile element.

For weaker elements to be stronger, it requires the will of the Exiler or Exiled. If you are easily wavered, your element will be weak no matter how strong of an Exiler or Exiled you are. This also applies for Judgements, stronger elements will easily damage them and weaker ones won’t.

Yes?”

The White Beast paused and looked towards the person who shot their hand up. The girl timidly spoke.

“You haven’t explained about Light and Darkness EM yet.”

The White Beast paused for a moment then he continued his lecture.

“Light and Darkness EMs are a bit more complex. As most of you should understand, Light based magic is used mostly for healing and support based. This does not mean Light elements are not a viable use for attacking or defense. As a healing tool, it requires for very good control of the element, thus if you can heal a wound, you can also open it up. As for Darkness EM…”

The White Beast went quite and then he quickly swung his left fist backwards, however instead of swinging round as it was air, it stopped and the background surrounding his fist cracked like glass and shatter revealing something similar to a small void. He turned and looked at the hole he created and looked back at the class and continued his explanation.

“As you can see, it is something like creating and manipulating space or ‘Void’. This is one of the most hard to learn yet most dangerous elements. As trying to create and utilize ‘Void’ is something of a completely different caliber, this is also the rarest EM.”

As The White Beast snapped his fingers, the void slowly closed up behind him. Hiriya remembered the event from last week; Eizen had used the Darkness element to create a ‘Void’. And Ice had managed to use his Light EM to detect and break the ‘Void’… Hold on… Hiriya quickly raised his hand.

“Yes?”

“Is Darkness EM weak to Light EM?”

The White Beast clenched his right hand and extinguished the six orbs that were spinning clockwise above it and then reopened his hand and two orbs of Light and Darkness appeared.

“Light and Darkness EM have a special trait. It cannot be destroyed by the other four elements, Fire, Water, Earth and Wind. However Light and Darkness EMs are even more special because they cancel each other out. Weaker Light EMs is destroyed by Stronger Darkness EMs and vice versa. You can imagine them as two sides of a coin.”

The White Beast closed his right palm and extinguished the orbs again. He the proceeded to virtualize a small screen in front of him by swiping his right hand in front of him. After typing a couple of things on the screen, a Judgement slowly virtualized behind him.

“For your first lesson, you will be required to combat against a simulated Judgement which is weak to your element. Of course, you will be separated into your basic elements. Exilers and Exileds with sub elements will be in a separate group, Saa~ Begin!”
