YN LN looked her image in the mirror up and down. Yet another sleepless night had ended and she had dressed herself already. She made her way to the office where L waited. "First one again I see," he commented. "You know me-" "Actually, I don't."
"What?" she asked him. "I don't know you or anyone else that well, really." She frowned at him. "Maybe you could make some friends!" she suggested, her ponytail bouncing behind her. He shook his head. "I've never been good at that," he replied.
YN tried to contained her blush and she smiled at him. "Well, now I'm your friend," she said, going to sit beside him. He rose a brow. "Why? I do not need friends." "That may be so, but they're nice to have!" She replied, doubting herself now.
L was quiet as he read his computer screen. YN assumed he had brushed her off and did the same, slightly hurt. "I appreciate you," he muttered. "I'm sorry?" "I said lovely weather we're having!" He said, tapping away at the keys. YN smirked. "Very nice indeed."
"What do friends do?" L asked minutes later. "Well, they talk, ask questions, go into town sometimes, things like that," YN tried to explain, looking up from her file. "May I ask you some questions?" he asked. YN nodded.
"What's your favorite color?" "That would be (favorite color)! Yours?" He went into deep thought. "Perhaps a nice blue.. What's your favorite music genre?" he replied. "Blue is lovely! And that would be (favorite music genre). How about you?" "I've always enjoyed classical music personally. Could I ask about your relationship with Mr. Matsuda?"
YN laughed slightly. "Matsu? Oh, he's like my best friend, a brother of sorts!" L nodded, feeling ever so slightly relieved. "Why do you ask?" "I was just curious," he replied quickly. She smiled softly and nodded. "How about we go out for a while, hm?" she suggested.
L stayed still for a moment. He nodded after a bit, offering a crooked smile. She stood from her wheeling chair and stretched, putting the strap of her purse over her shoulder. "Ready?" she asked. He slipped on a pair of old and worn sneakers before nodding. She grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the building.
"I'm going to show you a good time!" she said happily, swinging their arms as they headed into the busy town. He looked around, admiring the scenery as well as the occupants of the streets. "How about some food, hm?" she asked. He nodded, distracted by everything around him.
She pulled him into a small corner cafe. "What would you like?" she asked him quietly. He looked excitedly at the chalkboard menu that listed many deserts. YN smiled as she decided to order a simple coffee. She was incredibly tired and needed to revamp herself.
She ordered L's strawberry cake, as well as a coffee for both of them. L reached for his pocket to retrieve his money, but YN beat him to it. She paid and handed L his sweets.
She led L around the city, admiring the busy shops and such. Children were running and laughing, parents looked tired, yet happy. She happened to glance downwards to see L's pinkie brushing against hers. She blushed, smiling softly.
"Y/N, I feel a str-" he was interrupted by the sound of YN's ringtone. She frowned and answered her phone, holding a finger up to L as if saying "one moment". He nodded, feeling slightly agitated.
"Hello?... Really?.... I thought that was over.... Today?.... I could probably make it in a couple of hours.... Are you sure?.... If you insist.... Thank you.. Goodbye." YN frowned as she put her phone away. "It looks like we're gonna have to cut this short," she said apologetically. L shook his head dismissively. "Don't worry. This is still one of my best days," he said, hands now in pockets.
"It was my doctor. Otherwise I wouldn't have had to rain check you." YN felt horrible. As they neared the Headquarters, L contemplated saying what he was going to earlier. Shaking his head to himself, he only smiled and nodded as YN told him about the display she had seen in town.
"Well, we're here..." YN said, once they arrived. She opened the door for him before turning around to face the streets yet again. "Thank you, by the way!" she called behind her. L smiled. "Thank you!" he called back, going back to work.
