One year later






"Everything ok?" immediately the sound of Jai's voice made everything ten times better.


"Just another fight with Kyle..."


"He's such a jerk Kaylea! Why are you even still with him?" I could tell he was pissed because he called me Kaylea instead of Kay-Kay like usual...


"Because...I...I love him" his face saddened.


"I know Kaylea...but" he pulled me into a tight hug "look there's something I have to tell you-" it's like in the movies when someone's about to tell you something but then the phone rings. Yep I'm in that situation now. He lets go of me making my body suddenly cold from where his touch was.


"I'm sorry...I have to take this" he ran out of my room closing the door behind him.


"It's ok" I say to myself "he will come back and tell me when he's done on the phone" the front door slams shut. I walk over to the window and his car is exiting from our driveway and racing down the street. "Or not..."

One day passed, Jai nowhere to be seen.


Two days passed, still nothing.

Why is someone poking me?


"Kaylea...wake up"


"Go away mum I'm trying to sleep"


"You start work in an hour"


"I don't wanna go to work" I whined
Pulling my blanket over my head and tucking the rest under my legs, I tried to fall asleep...why do I have to work on a Saturday morning? Argh. The room went silent...I'm in heaven. I smiled to myself


"Kaylea!" I jumped "get your arse out of bed right this minute!"


"Or what...you love me too much-"
Cold water. Really mum.
I shrieked and jumped out of my now soaking wet bed. I looked down at my pyjamas sticking to my body and water dripping onto the carpet. I looked up to see a giant smirk on my mums face. So that's how you want to play?


"Hey mummy..." She took a step back. "I've been thinking...and umm I haven't gotten a hug from you in a while"


"You know what" she said while stepping further back "I think I can wait till tomorrow" and the game begins.

What started off as a nice Saturday in my bed ended up with me chasing mum around the house until I got that hug I wanted. My plan didn't work out so well since we both ended up outside, hose in mums hand and a shovel in mine. Don't ask how.


"Was that the door bell?" mum dropped the hose and peeked inside the back door.
"Kaylea go get it!"


"Why me?!"


"Because I look like I've just stepped out of a zombie movie"


"So nothing out of the usual-" she death stared me. "Ok!" I raised my hands in surrender.
I stepped inside and walked to the front door while my wet socks made squishy noises as I stepped. "Hehe" I opened the front door.
"Jai?" the smile disappeared from my face. He looked different from when I last saw him three weeks ago. He had longer hair now, pushed to the side so it didn't go in his eyes...his eyes, usually those perfect blue eyes now look darker with huge bags under them. He just disappeared and it made me upset not to mention pissed off.


"Why aren't you ready for work?" He blurted out. I forgot Jai takes me to work, only because I like his motorbike. I looked down at myself, soaking wet. And I don't even want to know what my face and hair looks like.


"Umm...I..."


"Hurry up Kaylea! you need to sort your life out and quit mucking around or your not gonna go anywhere in life." He looked angry...but hurt, this wasn't my best friend.


"Jai..." I grabbed his wrist gently and he just stared at it. "Jai what is wrong...where have you been?" He just kept looking at my hand on his wrist. He yanked his hand free making me freeze where I was. He looked hesitant for a moment, looking down at where my shirt was stuck to my body from the water. Suddenly he just grabbed me by the waist pulling my thin figure into his arms, squeezing me tight as if he hasn't realised I'm soaking wet, covered head to toe in water.


"I'm so sorry Kay-Kay" this made me smile. This was my best friend.


It had only taken me 20 minutes to shower and get changed before I would be late for work. Running downstairs and into the lounge room I saw mum and Jai talking...about what? I don't know. Jai looked up, he must've heard me coming.


"You ready?" He smiled


"Yeah, bye mum love you!" I yelled as I started walking towards the door. It was not long before Jai sped up in front of my and opened the door.


"Ladies first" holding his arm out.


I laughed. "If you were this much of a gentleman to other people, you might actually be able to get a girlfriend" poking my tongue out, he just giggled a little but enough for his dimples to show.
"What happened to the 'bad boy' Jai that got every girl he's ever laid eyes on?" I laughed, remembering what Jai used to be like when I first met him.


"Oh, umm...nothing I just...there's only room for one perfect girl in my life"


"And who is tha-"


"Let's go or your gonna be later for work" he mumbled as he started walking to his car. He didn't bring his motorbike...
