Dakota's words hung heavy between them like the clouds laden with rain in New York's night sky.
Her gaze is fixed on Jamie's underwear model body with a dangerous aura women around the world find irresistible. But it is not his appearance that grabs her. It is the pain and disappointment etched in his deep blue eyes and furrowed brow.

It dawns on her that for Jamie to walk away now suggests he's using the SNL skit as a pretext to end their sexual relationship. It would never have happened if the movie project hadn't been in jeopardy the previous October or if Millie hadn't given both of them her consent. At least he was honourable enough to break up with her in person. Seeing Jamie, breathing in his alluring masculine scent a few weeks after the movie's international premieres makes Dakota want to fling herself into his arms and submit to his domination of her body.
Dakota takes a deep breath and holds it watching Jamie's hand pause on the door handle. Their friendship means more than sexual intimacy. Months of simulating sex onscreen for the sequels after their break up is going to be excruciating. But she's survived worse. No cut went deeper, or bled more than a child watching her father leave.
