After a mostly sleepless night, I was awoken to the loud ring of my phone. I sat up in my bed, the ring had startled me awake. I groggily reached for my phone and answered it, not even checking who it was.

"Yes?"

"Felicia, there's been another one. An animal attack, similar to the one from last month." my boss told me.

I rubbed my eyes and got out of bed. "Okay, same place?"

"Not exactly, it's closer to civilization this time."

Closer? That wasn't good. "I got it. I'll be there in a bit." I told him and hung up.

I quickly showered and got dressed, jumping into my car and driving off to the woods. I didn't like hearing that the werewolves attacked closer to town. This is why you don't live close to the forest.

When I got there, I was surprised at how close the attack was. Only two miles away from the town, when the first kill was five miles away. I grabbed my kit and walked out of the car. As I approached Brian, I couldn't help but think about the last night. It could've been me.

Brian smiled at me. "Good morning," he said and began to give me the rundown as we walked through the roads and to the scene. "This body was discovered by a hunter early this morning. He stumbled upon it after followed large tracks."

My eyes widened. "Large tracks? By what?"

"Some type of canine. Coyote or large dog, I reckon." he replied.

"What did the hunter have to say about them?"

"That he's never seen such large canine tracks before, and he's been hunting for nearly twenty years and has been all over the world. They've already been cast, too, so we're going to send a cast in to the experts for further info."

We both stopped talking once we got to the body. This one was in worse shape than the first, but it was very similar to the first kill. "Well, this was definitely done by the same animal." I said and looked at Brian. "Have you spoken to the police about setting traps or searching the forest?"

"Yes, but they don't think it's serious enough for those measures. The attacks aren't happening frequently enough, and there's only been two deaths. Obviously they have better things to do than hunt for animals." he replied.

I sighed. "They've at least thought about closing off the forest, though, right?"

He nodded. "Except for the fact they don't know the radius of these attacks and would have to close off the road."

I sighed again and began to do my job, collecting samples. "I get what they're saying, but they're being rather stupid about it."

"Felicia," he said, quieting his tone. "Not everybody believes this was done by a werewolf."

"How long will it take them to figure that out? Until the entire town is devoured?" I replied in the same hushed tone.

He obviously didn't know how to reply, because he just shrugged and walked off.

I sighed and started to collect samples.

The usual routine began again, as I gathered up my stuff and drove off to the lab for further research. I spent the rest of the day testings the samples, coming up with the same result. This time, though, I extracted just the human part of the DNA and tried to see if I could find a human who matched it.

But sadly, nobody with that DNA, or at least, that part of it, was in the database. Another dead end. I was determined to find something that would make it more like a werewolf than just some half and half DNA.
