I didn't have much time to think about it in the morning because I was awoken by a loud phone call. I jumped bolt upright in bed and clutched my phone tightly. I must've been having a nightmare, because I was covered in sweat.

The call was from my boss and I quickly answered it. "Hello?" I asked, my voice sounded startled.

"Felicia, there's been another murder. I'll send the coordinates to your GPS, but you won't have to go far. This attack is closer than ever." he explained.

A chill went down my spine. The werewolves still killed last night, and I was first thankful then guilty that it wasn't me. "Alright, sir, I'll get right on it." I replied and hung up, jumping out of bed to start my morning routine.

I took a quick shower, since I always took a quick one in the morning, and during the shower I was able to investigate my bite wound more. It looked fully healed, covered by scar tissue and everything. But it looked bad.

Running my hand down my arm I could feel the holes that the teeth pierced into my skin and muscle. I was surprised my arm still worked with that damage. I didn't have time to be surprised for long, because I looked at the time and saw that I was going to be late.

I got dressed and ran out the door, I'd have to get breakfast later. Using the coordinates my boss sent me, I drove to the site and was stunned. Not only was this further from the last kill, but it was close to the local middle school. The werewolves were fast expanding their territory. I grabbed my stuff, exited the car and ran to the officer for the rundown.

He told me the usual stuff, about who found the body and what the eyewitnesses saw, if anything. "There are actually two bodies, this time, and one has the usual mutilation, but the second is what scares me." he finished.

I was about to ask what that was, when I saw it. It was, supposedly, a young couple. Who we assumed was the male was killed in the normal fashion. Like the werewolves killed him for food.

But the female, her appearance was different. Her throat had been ripped out, which is obviously what they do to kill people. Her arm had a very similar bite mark to mine, which could be a coincidence. But what definitely wasn't a coincidence was her missing eye.

And clawed into her chest was the saying, "an eye for an eye". I was speechless and others seemed to have noticed my shock.

"Are you okay?" Brian asked.

"No, not at all. I-I don't think I can be much help with this case anymore." I replied.

"Why not? You've done amazing thus far."

"I know, but now the murder has become personal. I'm sorry, but I have to resign from this case. I'll tell my boss right away."

"Felicia, are you sure everything is okay? Because this isn't like you at all. You never resign."

"I know, and I still want to help, but I can't today. I made a discovery last night that I have yet to tell anyone about, so I just need time to work on that and not these bodies."

He sighed but I could see he understood. "Go home, then. I'll tell your boss that you want to resign from this case. But you still have to go to the lab and work on other cases." he told me.

"I know. And thank you," I said and got back to my car, quickly driving home.

During the drive, I thought about how much this affected me. That could've been me, heck, maybe that was supposed to be me. That was probably what the werewolf wanted to do. Then why did it spare me? Maybe to bring an enemy closer, or to brainwash me into joining it. I didn't want to think too long on the reason though.
