Chapter 30
"Goodbye Daddy, Papa!" Molly hugged both her dads in turn, grinning widely from ear to ear. The weekend had finally come and Molly had been invited round to a friend's house for a sleepover. John had said yes immediately. Ignoring Sherlock's grumbling; he had wanted to take both Hamish and Molly along with him to the crime scene of the latest crime he was trying to solve. It was one of the harder ones and he thought it would be a good experience for them (because he wouldn't admit that he needed help from his children).
"Have fun, Molly," John smiled down at his only daughter.
"Remember you can phone us if there's any problems," Sherlock quickly put in, a worried light in his eyes. He always worried when one of their children was away. It had taken a week for him to stop worrying about Martin. John had been worrying too, but he had taken less time to relax. To stop constantly worrying.
"Yeh, I know!" Molly grinned, giving them both another hug before they left.
"Let's go up so you can dump your bags in my room!" Her friend, Abi, squealed excitedly.
"Okay," Molly beamed back, following Abi up the stairs. She hadn't brought much, managing to fit everything she needed into a backpack that she could actually carry.
"One of my friends from another school is around at the moment, I hope that is ok?" The other eight year old tilted her head as Molly dumped her bag on the floor in the bedroom.
"Yeah, of course," Molly smiled back, tugging at her curly blonde hair. Her Papa had tried to put it in a braid but ended up giving up, settling for a simple ponytail.
"Great! He's downstairs playing on the xbox I think. How about we join him?"
"Sure." Molly was curious. A boy? Interesting. And she had never played on an xbox before (none of the three Watson-Holmes children were that interested in electronic gaming). So that would be... Fun? Possibly. The eight year old was not really sure.
"Let's go!" Abi was already running down the stairs with a wide grin. Molly quickly followed, curious to meet the boy. She wondered what he would be like. She stuffed her hands into the pockets of her jeans as she entered the living room just behind her friend. What met her wasn't what she was expecting.
He stood up when they entered, flashing a beaming smile at both that almost made Molly swoon. His hair was a deep chestnut brown and rather messy as it fell over his eyes. And those eyes... They were a soft hazel and filled with a rather intelligent light. Judging by his height (he was just above average, Molly guessed) and his stance he was older than them. Nine or ten probably. He went to a state school, lived in a well of family, had an older brother... No pets. Didn't really like animals. He enjoyed video gaming but also like reading, although secretly. Didn't get on with his family. Had known Abi... Since they were young.
Deductions that Molly hoped were correct. Because... He seemed nice. Really nice. She liked him already. And he looked nice. Yes, she really liked him.
"Molly, this is Finn. Finn, this is Molly." Molly blinked, shaking her head slightly as Abi introduced them.
"Nice to meet you, Molly." Finn offered her a rather warm smile. Wow... she could get lost in that smile. She thought she was in love.
"Nice... Nice to meet you too. I see you read... Eh... Sorry..." She blushed slightly, biting her lip. Wasn't like her to get all awkward in conversations. Normally she was quite good at talking to other people. She had inherited John's social gene.
"Read? How to you know?" Finn tilted his head while Abi just watched with an all knowing smirk (well as close as an eight year old can get to one).
"Eh, I deduced it. My dad taught me."
"Sweet! Who's your dad?"
"Sherlock Holmes."
"I've heard of him! I read about him on a blog..." Yep. She definitely loved him. She was going to marry him. She could already see it. They would be very happy together. She would tell him when they got to know each other better.
"Papa writes the blog." Molly smiled lightly.
"Really? Cool!" He didn't even comment on the fact that Molly didn't have two dads, which most kids around her age did. They were going to marry and spend the rest of their lives together.
"So are we going to play on the xbox or what?" Abi put her hands on her hips, a light almost playful frown on her lips.
"Of course, after you," Finn indicated for Abi and Molly to sit down first on the small sofa. So that was how Molly ended up squished between Abi and Finn as they played a rather intense game of a sonic racing game. She was utterly terrible but... She enjoyed it so much. She didn't want it to end, really. She enjoyed it so much.
Of course it had to come to the end. After Finn left later that evening the rest of the sleepover went as many sleepovers do; watching a movie then being forced to go to bed. Molly was picked up by John just before midday. She actually couldn't wait to get home to tell her dads all about Finn. Who she was going to marry.
It wasn't until later in the evening, though, when she got to tell them as they ended up taking a family trip around London as they all solved the crime Sherlock had been working on (with the possible exception of John who just felt a tad baffled). But they got it in the end. Afterwards they all settled down in the living room like a rather normal family. John, Sherlock and Hamish all drank tea while Molly just had some hot chocolate. She hadn't quite... Acquired a like for tea yet. It was strange, though. There only being four of them.
"Daddy, Papa, I have something important to tell you." Molly's face was so serious that for a moment both Sherlock and John were worried.
"What?" Concern flashed across John's dark blue eyes.
"I have met the boy that I am going to marry in the future. He is wonderful and beautiful and I love him." Molly's eyes widened slightly and a wide smile crossed her lips. John practically spat out his mouthful of tea while Sherlock just groaned.
"What?!" Hamish just looked shocked.
"It seems Molly is a romantic like you, John," Sherlock commented drily.
"Nothing wrong with that," John shot back before putting down his tea to look at Molly evenly. "You're only eight, Molly. You can't decide who you want to marry. You might love him, you might not. Stay friends with him and wait till you're older. Okay? You're too young at the moment." John didn't want to point blank tell her that she obviously didn't like him. That would be a bit harsh. So he put it... Nicely.
"Okay," Molly replied with a shrug. She would quite happily be his friend. Then when they were older they would marry...
