Chapter 49
"I'm starting senior school!" Molly sang in a high pitched voice, smirking as Hamish shot her a barely concealed glare. The eleven year old really was rather excited about going and showing her excitement served to annoy her older brother. Considering he did not really like school. Well he claimed not to. Molly knew he secretly enjoyed it now that he was friends with Oliverio. Though he adamantly kept up the school-hating stance (which Molly had never understood).
It was rather strange. Hamish was beginning his last year of senior school just as Molly began her first one. He would be going to university in a year... And then there would only be Molly and her dads in the house during the school terms. That really would be weird. Not having one of the twins around. She would almost definitely miss them. Though they had their differences Molly got on very well with both brothers.
"Well, have fun," Hamish spoke as soon as they entered the school grounds. "Remember to memorise every detail to tell dad! He will quiz you." With a light smirk Hamish was off. Most likely to find Ollie. Molly arched an eyebrow and shrugged. She could quite easily find her way around. She would head to the library first... Check out the books. Hamish often complained that the collection was feeble; but it was Hamish. He would. She was sure it would be just fine. And maybe she would find some like minded individuals in that place.
"That's a good book!" Molly looked up from the book she was reading to meet the brown eyes of a girl who had come to stand next to her. First year like her, obviously. Wide smile. She was rather on the short side, only a bit taller than Molly. Molly liked her already.
"Is it?" Molly asked with a light smile, putting the book into the shelves. "I enjoyed his Maximum Ride books and was curious as to whether the Witch and Wizard ones were as good."
"They are, but in a different way," came the reply. "I'm Heather, by the way."
"Molly."
"Nice to meet you, Molly."
"You too. What form are you in?"
"1FM. You?"
"Same!" Molly's smile widened. This was great. She'd already met someone who was similar to her. Things were going well. She had been worried, truthfully. Sure, she had great friends in primary school. Was still friends with Abby at least. But senior school was just a bit different. If a bit meant very different.
Molly ended up heading to registration with Heather, the two of them just kind of clicking. They had quite a few shared interests, even if Heather hated sports with a passion (but Molly could forgive her for that).
"Didn't expect to see you here, Molly. I thought you were a year 7."
Molly rolled her eyes as the words reached her ears, not even having to look to know who it was. "Well I'm obviously a year ahead of my age, Finn. I could have been two if I wanted." She turned to face him, arms folded. Amusement dancing through his eyes as he met her stare from where he sat with his group of friends (a rather large one, Molly noted).
"Smarty pants."
"Jealous?" Molly let a light smirk cross her lips as a laugh emerged from Heather's.
"Maybe," Finn replied with a chuckle, shrugging. "So we are in the same form class. What a coincidence."
"A pretty terrible one if you ask me."
"Nah, you're glad. Because I'm one of your best friends!"
"You wish." Their conversation was cut off by a teacher entering the room and calling for silence. Molly shot one final glare at Finn before settling down to listen.
The rest of the day went by so quickly it was all a bit of a blur. Molly enjoyed it, to say the least. She already knew everything they were being taught for most subjects. She did make a few more friends though, and had a few classes with Finn. By the end of the day she was part of a small group of about five; her, Heather, Jenny, Lisa and Emily. They were all very varied in personality, the one thing they shared was their love for books. Molly was delighted to find a fellow football player in Jenny.
"How was school?" John was there to greet Molly and Hamish when they returned home. Sherlock wasn't anywhere in sight.
"Great!" Molly grinned, dumping her school bag on the ground and plopping onto the couch. "I made four friends! I met Heather first. She likes books, especially fantasy ones... Like me! She likes Lord of the Rings, Northern Lights and such! She plays the piano, which is cool. And she's really smart. Almost as smart as me. Then there's Jenny. She likes books too, her favourite being war ones." Molly shrugged slightly. "She plays loads of sports too! Especially football. There's also Lisa. She likes romantic books, real life ones, fashion and make up and stuff. And then there's Emily. She's really quiet and reads far too much. She likes computers, reading and science. She also plays this game called Dungeons and Dragons which she wants to make us play. It sounds quite fun." John blinked as Molly excitedly talked, shooting out information. Hamish just looked amused, rolling his eyes and heading into his room.
"Well that certainly seems good," John smiled, ruffling his daughter's hair. She was the only one he could do it to now. Hamish and Martin were too tall. They weren't Sherlock height, yet, but they were taller than John.
"It was!" Molly had a permanent grin on her face, many coloured eyes bright and shining. "I can't wait to tell dad! Where is dad?"
"He had to head down to Scotland Yard at Greg's request."
"Oh..." Light disappointment passed across Molly's features. She had been hoping that both of her dads would be home to greet her from her first day at senior school.
"He did say he would bring back some small cases for you to solve."
At that Molly's face once again lit up. Yes, she would like that. Very much so.
