Chapter 60
"Congratulations," John was the first to pull Martin into a tight hug as he got off of the train. The taller eighteen year old smiled down at his papa, although he looked a tad embarrassed. Soon Molly had joined in, Sherlock decided that he might as well envelop his family in a big hug while pulling Hamish in. It pretty quickly turned into "let's all give Martin a congratulatory hug at the same time". Max stood at the side looking amused before Hamish pulled his brother's boyfriend into the hug, giving him a congratulations as well.
It was safe to say that they got some weird looks.
Eventually they all pulled away and Sherlock led the way out of the station. Martin still looking embarrassed, though he had expected that kind of welcome back from his last year at school. Max took his hand, giving it a slight squeeze coupled with a teasing smile. Hamish fell into step beside his twin, deep blue eyes twinkling.
"So are you going to get all posh and fancy, now that you're going to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland?" Hamish dramatically flourished his hand as he said the name. Martin rolled his eyes.
"Of course not... You're the one who goes to Cambridge," Martin snorted. Hamish just shrugged. Molly ended up bouncing back to them, talking excitedly to all three of them. Even at thirteen she still had a habit of talking a lot in an excited manner. The talking definitely came from Sherlock.
Upon getting back to the 221b John put on the kettle. Molly went off to get ready for the date with Finn she had later while Sherlock sat down in his normal chair. Hamish dragged Martin into their room to show him something, closing the door and leaving Max with Martin's parents.
"So you are also going to the Conservatoire?" Sherlock tilted his head as he watched Max. John bustled in, handing Max his tea and giving Sherlock a look that told him he could get his own.
"Yes," Max nodded with a slight smile. "I'm doing Musical Performance whereas Martin is doing composition. However we will both be playing in orchestras and such."
Sherlock nodded. "Good." He quickly went to get his tea before proceeding with the questioning. "What are your living arrangements?"
"Martin and I plan to rent a flat during our stay."
John leant forward, a light frown on his lips as he glanced over his son's boyfriend. "When are you going to tell him?"
It took Max a moment to work out what John was asking him. He bit his lip, gaze no longer meeting those of Sherlock and John. "I don't know. If our relationship continues, soon... I guess. I really do not know."
Sherlock and John exchanged glances, both concerned.
"Does Hamish know?" Max asked.
"Undoubtedly," Sherlock replied. "He has had enough time to work it out. But he will not tell Martin."
Max let out a slight sigh of relief. "Good."
"How is it?"
"Fine. No change. All the medication helps. I don't think Martin notices, beyond my reduced eating. But I've had a lack of appetite on and off for years."
The door to the twins' room opened, Hamish and Martin entering amidst bickering.
"Please tell me you're going to move the basin of mould."
"But it is an important experiment! If disturbed the results will be ruined."
Martin rolled his eyes, plopping down next to Max with a heaved sigh. John folded his arms, giving Hamish a stern glare.
