Recap-
"Sweetie!!! What's wrong?" She asks embracing me in a hug on the floor. I wrap my arms around her, crying into her shirt.
"The kids at school. They said things. "horrible things. Can we move? I can't go back there!" I say before the sobs shake my whole body. I feel my mom stroking my hair in an effort to calm me.
"Of course sweetie. I can transfer to the branch in another town. And we can still keep this house." My mother cos into my ear, still stroking my hair.
The story!-
Within the hour, my mother had gotten boxes from her work so we could pack. And by the end of the night, everything is packed. I lay on my bed at the end of the night listening to my music in an effort to calm my nerves about the move. My mom already called her work telling them what they needed to know about us moving and transferring to another branch. They were sad to lose her but they wished us the best of luck with everything. Including the deal with me since they all have - or had kids. They all grew up. She also talked to the principle of the school I would be attending. They said they were happy to have me join their school.I get up sighing in defeat that I won't get to sleep right now. I walk over to my window and sit on the roof outside. I stay out there for a while till my mom comes in and knocks on the window pane.
"Hey sweetie. We should hit the sack. It's going to be a long day tomorrow." She says resting an hand on my shoulder. I turn and throw my legs over the window pane, climbing back inside. She brings me back to my bed and tucks me in. Once I'm all set she kisses me on the forehead and leaves, shutting the door and turning off the light on her way out. I roll over and feel the comforting hug of sleep embrace me.
I wake up to birds chirping and the sun shining and the outlooks of a great day! Then, i remember that today I move away from my town. I drag myself out of bed, grabbing my volleyball shorts,my tank tops, bra and undies, and go to the bathroom. After showering and towel drying my hair, I pull on my shorts and tanks along with the rest. I apply light lip gloss along with some mascara. Once I look up to my standards, I pack my PJ's in my duffel bag and zip it up. I look in the mirror one more time and fluff my hair.
I carry my bag down the stairs and put it by the door with my moms. I walk into the kitchen to see my mom standing in front of the fridge packing the food in a cooler so we can bring it to our new house.
"Hey mom." I say, trying not to startle her. It works and she turns around with tears slowly running down her face. I rush over to her and hug her trying to comfort her like she did for me last night. I stoke her hair shushing her. I feel her arms hug me back.
"What's wrong mother?" I ask her once she calmed down a bit.
" It's so hard you know. After what happened with your father, I couldn't think of leaving this house." She says while looking at the sliding doors leading to the back yard. The last place I ever saw my father.
"Mother. It's okay. We can always come back. Maybe not till I have finished school but soon. Don't worry. We will find him one day. He isn't dead. I would have felt something if he did so don't worry your pretty little head about it." I say poking her nose. She smiles a little.
"I'm supposed to be the one comforting you" She laughs. It's good to hear her laugh again. Once we pack up all the food we load everything in the truck and since we don't have anything to cook with we head over to Tim Horton's to get food. I get a honey cruller, large white hot chocolate and a grilled cheese sand which. I never really got into all the mocha's and stuff like the other girls. When I go to Starbucks, I always get a Vanilla Bean Frappachino.
Once we get our food from Timmy's, we head over to Starbucks. I give them my order and the guy that is making the drinks gives me a wink. I smile and giggle. When my name is called I look at my cup. I see a winky face along with his number and 'call me' on it. I look over at him and wink and walk out the door. We climb back in the truck and start driving. Since we used the restrooms in Starbucks we are good. After we reach the city limits mother looks over at me and tells me where we are going to be moving.
" California" My jaw drops. I have always wanted to move there! I can't belive we are moving from Kansas to flipping California! I tell my mom I'm going to try to sleep after I eat my food. I plug my headphones in after eating and drinking the last of my food and drink. Crazy kids is playing by Ke$ha. I lean my chair back and fall asleep to music. My mom wakes me up a while later. We are pulled up at a motel.
"Sweetie. We are stopped for the night. We only have a few more hours to drive in the morning." I give her a nod while rubbing the sleep from my eyes. My eyes are trying to keep open as I stumble in the room my mom got us. I change into my PJ's and crash on the bed. I sleep soundly through the night. I wake again to my mother poking my face while whispering.
'Sweetie. Come on. We have a short drive, so get your butt up." While repetitively poking my face. I groan and sit up, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. I pull on my outfit from the day before and put my pjs back in my bag. I walk to the bathroom doing my hair and makeup again, since we are arriving in Cali today! I meet my mom out by the truck embracing the warm breeze around me. We hop in the truck and go to get food again. We get the same as yesterday. I decide to turn on the music. The Other Side is playing. I sing along, knowing all the words. My mom is smiling when the song is over.
"You have a gift honey" My mom says wiping the tear from her eye. The next son on the radio is a song from the movie Burlesque. I sing right along with Christina Aguilera. My mom gives me a few claps before grabbing the wheel and laughing. I open my window when we reach the sing saying welcome to California. As we pull into town I start to feel better. My mom drives us,with the help of the GPS, to our new house. We pull up the driveway when a sudden thought comes to mind.
"Mother, what happened to my truck?" I ask praying she didn't sell her.
"Oh. I had someone bring it down here." I breathe a sigh of relief. My mom points on the other side of the driveway where my truck is parked.
"Do you have the address to my school?" I ask while getting out of the moving truck.
"Oh yeah! GO and drive and check it out. The school is still in session but don't worry. I doubt anyone will notice you. It's exam week after all." My mom says while handing me a piece of paper. I grab it and give her a kiss on the cheek then turning to my truck. I open the door and slide in, running my hands on the soft leather of the steering wheel. I plug my IPod in and play Royals by Lorde. I sing to myself as I drive up to the school, following my GPS installed into my truck. When I pull up to the school I am pleased at how big it is.
Must me a full high school I think to myself before shutting my truck off. I step out, placing my iPod in my purse along with phone and wallet. I open the doors to the school and find the office quite quickly.
"Hi. My name is Tallia. I am new and wanted to look around." I tell the lady on the other side of the desk. She pops her bubble of gum and sighs.
"Okay. Just go and look around." She says with a dismissive wave of her hand. I walk out of the office right into something-or should I say, someone.
