I never thought I could wake up to something so blissful; I was under the assumption that the most blissful state could only occur when in slumber but evidently I was wrong. I rub my eyes with the back of my hand and stretch my arms wide allowing a yawn to fall from my lips. The bed sheets beneath me are crisp and soft as I wriggle my body on top of them. I pull back the plush comforter and spring my eyes open looking out over the gorgeous city of Los Angeles.
“What time is it?” I ask softly taking a few deep breaths allowing my body time to fully wake up. My best friend manoeuvres around the ajar bathroom door and makes her way into the bedroom, her slightly damp blonde hair falling gracefully onto her shoulders.
“It’s time to wake up” Meg replied with a smile “Since you missed breakfast, I’ve sneaked you up some toast and I made you a cup of tea” she informed me gesturing towards the steaming cup of tea sitting on the bed side table.
Meg wandered over to the window and let her eyes cast over the many tall buildings outside. This hotel is by far the most upmarket hotel I’ve ever stayed in, the location is close enough to the head quarters but far away enough to be rid of the hussle and bussle. The hotel is surrounded by quaint stores and coffee shops, the roads lined with hundreds of palm trees.
“Thank you” I smile at my best friend “It’s not every day you get to wake up to a view like this” I say thoughtfully while admiring the view.
“I can’t wait to actually get out and enjoy the sun” Meg gushed, I knew how excited she was to come on this trip, for years she’d been banging on about how much she wanted to get out of England and embark on an adventure and where better to do that than Los Angeles?
I pull my hair out of my face with an elastic hair tie that had stayed on my wrist through the entirety of the night, deep red grooves marked my skin where the band had once been. I haven’t had a chance to shower since I came here which made my hair feel all matted and sticky, nothing that a little dry shampoo can't fix. It was only yesterday afternoon that we landed and as soon as we reached the hotel jet leg soon took its toll and I didn’t object to sleep.
“You know things would’ve been different if Mitch was out here with us” I frowned reminding myself of my most recent breakup. I can’t help the overwhelming feeling of loneliness that soon takes over. The ache of missing him is still fresh despite the disastrous end to our relationship due to HIS many mistakes.
“Mitch put you through years of stress and heartbreak and honestly you should’ve never gone back to him after the first time he hurt on you” Meg raised her voice in anger but she quickly readjusted after seeing my reaction “I know you’re hurting, but I promise this summer will be able to completely take your mind off of it” she continued softly in attempt to pull me out of this very unwelcomed miserable mood.
“I know, it’s just hard, we talked about coming out here together before everything happened and before he-” I paused feeling my eyes suddenly well with tears, I feel a lump form in my throat and I take a few seconds to gather my thoughts.
“You didn’t deserve all that he put you through, he made promises that he could never stick to, he persuaded you to stay every time he fucked up and he never deserved the undying love you provided him with, he hurt you too many times nobody deserves to be with a giant fuck up like him” Meg emphasised swinging her hands about for effect. She moved closer to me, sitting on the edge of the extremely comfy and over priced hotel bed that was spread out right next to mine, the only thing separating them was the oak wood bed side table.
“I promise that this trip will completely take your mind off of him, take this chance to move on Am’s, forget about him, wipe him out of your mind” Meg smiled “And hey, who knows who you’ll meet out here?” she winked moving closer to nudge my shoulder with hers before letting a giggle escape her lips.
