April 22nd, 1979
I've been anticipating the coming evening all day. Though being squished between Ratty and Crystal in a van for five hours could have put a damper on things, I've been quietly buzzing. Having become rather good friends with the band, I occasionally forget that I have been a diehard fan of Queen since my uni days. It's rather lucky that's the case; if I'm honest, I'd rather not hyperventilate every time I'm in the same room as them.
We arrive at the hotel we were at just a few days ago at four o'clock. I'm tempted to take a power nap, but over sleeping and not having enough time to get ready is really not an option I want to take a chance on. Contemplating what I should do with myself in the meantime, I hear a knock on the door to my room. Surprised, I stand up and make my way over to the door. Opening it up I find both Roger and Crystal.
"Hello. What brings you two here?"
"He wanted to see you." Crystal says, pointing a finger at his counterpart.
Roger not-so-subtly digs his elbow into Crystal and smiles while I roll my eyes at them. "I was just coming to see how you're holding up. I haven't seen much of you since your birthday. Touring isn't easy, especially when you're not used to it."
"Thank you for caring, it's very sweet. I'm a tad tired, but my body still seems to be functioning normally. Would you two like to come in? You won't be able to stay very long, but I have an hour to kill."
They both nod as I open the door wider and step out of the way.
"Where're you going?" Crystal asks.
"To dinner actually. Freddie asked me yesterday."
Roger and Crystal share a glance.
"Hmm, that's nice." Roger says as they take a seat on the small sofa in my room.
The two of them sit quietly, both giving me a smirk.
"What?" I ask. Clearly they have some idea in their heads that seems to be somewhat amusing.
"Nothing." Crystal says, giving his head a small shake.
Roger can't seem to wipe the small grin off of his face, but continues the conversation. It irritates me to no end, but I do my best to not let on. I don't need him to be pleased with himself about being a pain in the ass.
The three of us have a general chat for almost a whole hour. When I realise how quickly the time has gone, I do my best to shoo them out the door. I finally manage to push Roger out, Crystal leaving with no struggle, and I as I go to close the door he makes a comment.
"Have fun on your date."
I roll my eyes, properly closing the door on him. "It's not a date, but I will have fun. Now piss off."
I turn away from the door and go to get changed and prepared. I don't think it's a date.
It's lucky I did get ready quite early, as at a quarter to eight, I hear knocking at my door. I get up from my spot on the sofa and go over to answer it.
"Sorry I'm here so early. If you're not ready, I can-" He stops mid-sentence and simply stares at me for a moment.
I smile at him, not sure what I'm supposed to do. "Are you okay, Freddie?"
He blinks and seems to come out of his trance. "Sorry, you just. I'm... You look really nice." His cheeks flush to a deep red.
It feels like my stomach does a flip when he says it, but I ignore it and reply, "Thank you. You look rather dashing yourself." He really does. He hasn't dressed up hugely, but I can see he's made an effort.
