April 5th, 1979
It's now Thursday and I should hopefully be hearing about whether or not I get the job at the cafe by tomorrow. The more I think about Marc and I, the more I want to see him again to try and resolve this. I'm beginning to miss him a lot, more than usual. It doesn't help that he left on such bad terms and I've been isolating myself from everyone and anyone I can. Carrie has called a few times, but I haven't bothered to pick up. I did this morning to tell her I'm okay, I just needed space, and the relief in her voice that I was okay almost made me cry.
After that I decide I'll pick up the phone and answer the door, even if it's the last thing feel like doing. I may feel hopeless, but I don't want to scare my friends and family like that ever again. The loneliness was fine at first, but it's slowly eating away at me. It's times like this where I desperately wish I had a pet, particularly a cat. I fill my time with reading and drawing though as much as I love doing it, it's almost tedious after the amount of books and drawing I've finished in the last few days.
I'm doodling on a piece of notepaper when the phone rings. I drop my pen and reach over for it.
"Hello, Alex speaking."
"Hey there Alex, it's Brian. The boys and I are meeting up again and were wondering if you'd like to join us."
"Oh, I don't know. I'm kind of busy."
"I know you're not busy for a fact. John said you'd been laid off. I'm truly sorry, but I think you'll want to come down."
"I really don't feel like it, Bri."
"Please, Alex. I promise you you'll regret it if you don't come."
"What could you lot be possibly doing to make me regret not coming?"
"Something pretty big, mate. Please come."
"Fine. Where am I going?"
"My place. Are you leaving now?"
"I suppose so. I'll see you in twenty."
"Drive safe!" Before he hangs up the phone I hear him say, "She's coming guys, get everything-"
"What are those boys up to?" I chuckle to myself.
I pick up my keys and bag and get straight into my car. I drive to Brian's place and there is already a convoy of cars in the driveway. I decide to park out on the road and walk up the driveway. When I reach the door, I barely have time to knock when it is yanked open revealing four eager faces.
"ALEX!" they yell in unison.
"BOYS!" I yell back, laughing at them, "Now, what are you lot doing here and why have I been invited?"
"Well, little A, we have a bit of a - proposition, let's say, for you," Roger says, grinning at me.
"Okay, it sounds like you're either going to scam or kill me, so let's hear it," I say.
"Follow us, dear," Freddie says, flouncing off to the lounge. The rest of us walk behind him to the lounge and Freddie, Brian and John sit on the bigger couch, and Roger joins me on the love seat.
"So?" I say, trying to get them to finally spill what the fuss is about.
"Well, Alex, I told the boys about your current position with your job. I'm sorry if you didn't want me to, but hear me out first. We have spent the last couple of days formulating a plan and would like to offer you a job on our Asia tour." Deaky says, "We're not doing this out of pity, so you know."
All of them are smiling at me with big wide grins on their faces and my mouth is hanging open in disbelief.
"I'm sorry. Did you just say you had a job? For me?"
