The Northern Lights have always been a signature beauty near Earth's North Pole.  Their bright colors delight viewers and bring attention to the starlit skies.

They're elegant... peaceful... graceful...

Ominous.

In the year 2020, the once-loved Aurora Borealis has become the warning sign to a not-so-natural natural disaster.  Everywhere they go, something goes horribly wrong.  Something irreversible.  Something no one can predict, much less explain.

Now, a blue Aurora over the sea could signal a hurricane heading for land, or a tsunami.  A green Aurora might lead to an epidemic, or a disease on a crop that millions depend on.  A pink Aurora might light up just before an uncontrollable wildfire burns down a forest.  And everywhere that the Aurora Borealis is out of place, destruction and havoc are wreaked upon the earth.

People flee from their homes in hopes of finding some sanctuary, but nowhere provides the comfort and consistency they are looking for, the safety they crave.  Nowhere except for a place shielded from these events.  A place no one has thought to be a place of refuge.  A place completely protected thus far.

Hawaii.
