-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------After dropping Matt to his car I ran to the elevator. Once exiting the elevator I sprinted to my office and slammed the door shut before running to my desk.
I sat down and sighed, burying my head into my arms.
"You can do this Jasmine, you can do this and you will complete this," I said to myself, I straightened my back and looked at the massive pile. I grabbed my phone and called home. After the second ring my parents picked up. I informed them about my work load. They laughed because they thought I was being lazy. If only my parents saw what I had to do, it would wipe the smile right of their faces.
I started going through the sheets and sorting out everything in its original file when my phone rang. I groaned, instantly irritated by the unknown caller.
"Hello," I snapped to the other person on the phone.
"Bitch, why are you ignoring me," Kelly screamed into my ear.
"I'm not ignoring you," I snapped back at her. I knew that the cause of my bad mood was Matt. It was wrong of me to take my anger all out on Kelly.
"I'm sorry Kell, I'm just having a bad week," I muttered.
"Bless you," Kell said in her Southern American accent. "What happened? Fill me in with all the deets girl."
"Kay, so the good news is I found a job!" I said.
"That's great news," Kelly squealed.
"But the bad news is I'm Matthew Burke's secretary and he expects me to go through over 500 papers and do other bloody shit by 7am tomorrow morning!" I shrieked at her.
"My poor baby," she cooed. "No wonder you haven't been answering my calls. Also you need to buy yourself a new phone when you first get paid!"
"I'm comfortable with the phone I have," I said through gritted teeth. "Anyways, my point is I wasn't trying to avoid you babe, I've been really busy but I promise-"
"Don't make any promises that you can't keep," Kelly interrupted me.
"Fine," I huffed, "If I ever get a day off or something like that then I'll come and visit you and the kids," I suggested.
"Sounds good to me, the kids miss you," She sighed.
"Of course they do, they love their godmother more than their Mum," I teased her.
"Shut up bitch," she hissed. "Bye!" She hung up on me and I sighed. I knew she was going to call back, I was hoping tomorrow.
Finally I started going through the file, with no interruptions except for my phone, the Mac in front of me, the stereo on the side, and the curious part of me wanting to surf through the building and see every aspect of it and Matt on my mind.
Focus Jasmine, focus on the task . . .
I was terrible at focusing on things for a long time apart from when I was watching Doctor Who.
After what seemed like endless hours on loop I finally finished through the enter pile. I sighed in relief and exhaustion.
I looked at the Mac and realized that I missed a new episode of Doctor Who.
Fucking bastard . . .
I switched on the white Mac and after loading it up; I searched on BBC iPlayer for the latest episode.
The rest of my night was spent watching reruns of Doctor Who.
The sound of my phone ringing woke me up from my deep sleep.
Groaning, I lifted my head and answered my phone.
"Why the fuck are you waking me up for?" I moaned to the other person on the end.
"You are late Miss Malik! It's 7:01am and I still haven't received all the necessary documents required!" Matt shouted at me from the other end.
"Oh fuck!" I hissed wide awake, immediately getting up and grabbing the pieces of paper.
"I'll be right there Sir," I exclaimed as I slipped on my blazer. I didn't bother with my hair as it wasn't the most important thing at this moment in time. I grabbed my purse and sorted out the pile of sheets in my hand as I made my way to the elevator.
As soon as the elevator reached the ground floor I darted out of the building and into the quiet dark streets of London. The street lights were dim, shining light across the large roads. As it was Saturday the roads weren't filled with noisy cars and cyclists who would sneak their way around the cars.
From the corner of my eye I saw the bus approaching the bus stop. On Saturdays, the bus took longer to come and I needed to give these to Matt as soon as possible.
Why wasn't this in the job description?!
Why did I even agree to this again?
I did the most idiotic thing I had ever done in my life.
I raced to the bus stop, hoping to get there before the bus.
I didn't stop, look or listen.
I didn't look left or right.
I didn't stop in time or else I could've avoiding this confrontation . . .
