Chapter 13: Courtyard Escapades

It was the next day at school that people had noticed something different about Annie Leonhardt, people had noticed how for once she seemed to actually be sociable. It was during the 5th period lunch that people noticed the changes in her. For one she actually decided to interact with other people besides Reiner and Bertholdt. She had actually decided to sit by Eren and his friends and she even brought along Reiner and Bert.  Which to Eren and Annie clearly didn't think it was weird but clearly everyone else thought it was equivalent to discovering a new form of organic life. Something else that people noticed was that Annie seemed to giggle?  everyone who was nearby couldn't believe what they just heard, it was something they thought Annie was incapable of even doing and that laughing was against her code or something along those lines. Everyone besides Eren, Bertholdt and Reiner thought it was one of the strangest things. One of the real kickers though is that halfway through the period a few watchful eyes had noticed that Eren and Annie have for sure grown a lot closer, and a select few who were watching intently had noticed that Annie had actually become a little flustered and was blushing at something Eren said, where they flirting? they couldn't believe their eyes,  Annie was actually flirting with someone. This was definitely different. As people were recovering from the shock of seeing Annie actually flirt with someone Eren stood up and threw something out before walking out of the cafeteria and heading out to the courtyard. Soon Annie stood up and followed suit.  Annie walked outside and saw that Marcus was leaning against the wall smoking a cigarette,  "Your stupidity never ceases to amaze me Marcus, having fun smoking on school property where it strictly tells you not to?" Annie asked sarcastically, Marcus chuckled and said "Well sorry to break it to ya but I don't really care." Marcus said as he took the cigarette from his mouth and dropped it to the floor and extinguished it with his shoe. He began to walk away before he turned to Annie and said, "By the way lover boy is waiting for you over there as he pointed in the direction that Eren had walked." He said with a grin. "Shut up Marcus..." Annie said as she folded her arms and turned her head away blushing. "Aw c'mon you know you love me." Marcus said while chuckling. "W-WHO COULD LOVE AN IDIOT LIKE YOU!" Annie yelled clearly flustered as she stormed off towards Eren. Marcus just chuckled and walked away. Soon Annie walked down the rock path and saw Eren on his knees looking at all the flowers while he examined the beauty of them and she did the same except she was examining his. Soon Annie walked closer and sat on a bench and just watched him, she noticed that he had a watering can by his side. 'He must tend to some of the flowers huh.' she thought to herself, It explained a lot, every now and then before she became closer to him she had noticed that he would be out here in the courtyard a lot when she looked through some of the windows that overlooked the area. She also remembered how he was a part of the gardening club the year before and she guessed that he must still have permission from someone to be out here to tend to some of the plants.  She soon noticed Eren was now tending to the plants by watering them and even planted a few new ones. Eren soon stood up and turned to go sit on the bench until he saw Annie causing him to jump and let out a little yelp as he hadn't expected to see her there. Annie just let out a little giggle, and Eren sighed. "Y'know its not polite to sneak up on people." Eren said with a smile as he took a seat next to her. Annie smiled softly and said, "I'm not a huge people person so no I didn't know." she said sarcastically. "Ha ha, you have me dying of laughter please stop." Eren quipped. Annie laughed, "Oh my how witty, must have taken you ages to come up with that." Annie retorted.  Eren just chuckled, "What are we gonna go back and forth at each other now?" Eren asked sarcastically. "No I just like being a sarcastic asshole." Annie said. "Heh, that explains a lot then." Eren said with a smile. Annie couldn't help but giggle, "Y'know thankfully I'm really into sarcastic assholes." Eren said as Annie rested her head on his shoulder, "And lucky for you I'm really into witty douchebags." she said with a small smile. "Wow thanks that makes me feel real good about myself." Eren said and chuckled. Soon the air was filled with silence, not an awkward silence though it was a comfortable silence. Eren soon grabbed Annie's hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. In Eren's mind this was one of the many joys in life, spending time with the one you care about the most.
