"You were awake? You heard what I said?"
Paul bit his lip and nodded. "I did."
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for you to hear that!" John laughed nervously.
"Yeah." He looked up unsurely. "Did you mean it?"
"Of course I did, I meant it all! You're so important to me, I can't even begin to explain. I don't care if you're a guy or a girl, it doesn't matter. You're still me best mate, and...possibly more?" He tilted his head.
"More? Wow." Paul fiddled with his hands. "I haven't been with someone for so long."
"Aw, how is that possible? You're stunning."
"Nah."
"Um, yeah. Beautiful." John stroked his cheek, smiling widely. He slowly closed the distance, kissing him softly.
Paul hummed in approval, lacing his arms around his neck. "I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too. I don't care if you're a boy, girl, both, something else, or nothing. You'll always just be me Paulie Pie."
"Paulie Pie?!" He recoiled in mock terror.
"Yep, hope you like it! I'll be using it for the rest of your life!"
