Previous Chapter Summary:

Noctis awoke to find an unfamiliar maid tending to him for the day, in place of a sick Cordia. Upon travelling into Insomnia with his companions, Ignis, Prompto and Gladiolus, Noctis finds Cordia instead healthy and perfectly fine, performing on the streets with her violin in order to raise money to aid her unfortunate (adopted) sister, Sidonia, who'd recently lost her low-paying job. Noctis offers to take her to visit her sister, and the two find that, in desperation, Sidonia had chosen to take her own life. Managing to save her, Noctis promises to attempt to secure Sidonia a place as a servant in the palace, with food, shelter, and a regular income.

The following morning, both the royal family and servants in their name gather outside the palace to welcome a guest, Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, Noctis' fiancé. Cordia doesn't exactly feel wonderful about her presence, though she refuses to pin it down to her own temperamental feelings.

A few days later, there was another guest welcoming, though this time it was less grand than Lady Luna's. Most of the servants gathered to welcome a new member into their fold, and Cordia couldn't stop grinning at the idea of Sidonia joining them, and living and working at the palace with her. For once, she didn't have to worry about the wellbeing of her sister and she would know for sure that she was safe. It was a relief, and she couldn't thank Noctis enough.

Though, if Lady Luna wasn't so clingy, she would have had plenty of opportunity to talk to him and thank him again. The only use Cordia had during Lady Luna's visits was to be a chaperone for the couple. She hated it; following them around and watching Luna get too close for Noctis' comfort was angering her as well as him.

Noctis was a reclusive person, even with Luna, his fiancé and someone he'd known for years. So when she got too close or too touchy and couldn't even see how uncomfortable it made him, Cordia held back from ripping her from the prince herself. At the end of the day after many hours of spending time with Luna, she was sure she had caught him breathing out sighs of relief. It warmed her heart that he smiled at her when he saw her, unlike when he met with Luna in the morning.

Though, she supposed, with Noctis busy making Lady Luna feel at home, she was busy making Sidonia feel at home. Her sister had moved into the small quarters she had, but she was more than happy to welcome her with both arms if it meant her leaving that disgusting flat she'd previously been living in.

Sidonia was still a little shaken after the whole ordeal, but she was thankful to both Cordia and Noctis for saving her after she'd "made a mistake at a weak time", as she described it. She was also incredibly indebted to King Regis for taking her in, and she gave the king her word that she would work hard to repay him.

She was struggling so far. She wasn't used to working under royalty like Cordia was, and she'd agreed to show her the ropes. She, so far, had only succeeded in getting a few glares from Noct as she and Sidonia giggled about strange things as they followed behind him and Lady Luna on their daily walk through the gardens.

However, since she was new, she wasn't allowed to help Cordia do anything specifically related to Noctis, and she was kind of glad about that. It was at times like the morning and night when she had to attend to other duties whilst Cordia took care of the prince's needs. Cordia was glad that she and Noctis still had some time together alone; Noctis was as much her friend as Sidonia was, and without that time to spend with him, she'd probably feel like he was straying too far from her.

It was like that now, as she pulled back the sheets on Noctis' bed and tucked them tidily out of the way. He was sat in the far side of the room, curled up on a chair with his phone in his hands, occasionally glancing between it and the window next to him. She was surprised he wasn't asleep yet.
