Taryin had his arm wrapped around my shoulder helping me across the front lawn to my front door. Sunny was close behind me, both of them were tense. I could understand I was on the verge of a mental breakdown, if it weren’t for Balto I would have snapped by now.
I stepped shakily through my front expecting Balto to be sitting on the stairs waiting. Instead there was a strange man sitting there dressed in a long black cloak and tight black pants. He had his one hand pressed over his mouth the other one gripped a black cellphone.
His short black hair looked thick and soft but stood on end like it was electrically charged. He turned and looked at me striking blue eyes locking with mine, I felt my entire body freeze. He ran towards me his hand holding the side of my face as he crushed his mouth to mine.
“Sybelle are you alright?” He whispered in a deep purring tone, it was the voice that clicked it together in my head.
“Balto?” I hissed my eyes narrowing.
“I meant to surprise you when you got home.”
My heart raced being in front of Balto’s human form, his skin was pale like Sylvester’s but it was warm and smooth unlike his paper like skin. This was Balto, tears welled in my eyes and I launched at him finally able to wrap my arms around his chest. He was here he was human.
“I don’t ever want that to happen again!” I wailed against his bare chest.
It was now Balto’s turn to lead me deeper into my house so Sunny and Taryin could come inside, Balto rubbed my back with his wide hand.
“I’m sorry, I know you don’t want this to happen. But it’s going to, that’s why I’m sorry that I love you Sybelle. Nobody I care about is ever happy”
I laughed awkwardly my arms tightening around his chest, “You barely know me, so how can you care about me.” I sniffled.
“Two weeks I’ve known you Sybelle, and trust me when you’re a cat you learn a lot more.” He went to sit down on the couch but missed because he was too busy watching me.
It caused both of us to slide to the floor, instead of trying to sit up and fix ourselves he just pulled me over into his lap.
“I’ve wanted to hold you like this for the past week.” He whispered into the top of my head.
Balto was very good at helping me forget why I was afraid, just touching him seemed to wash it away. But in my head I was drawn back to my list of things I needed to do.
I still needed to talk to Natalie, Find a way to break Balto’s curse, graduate high school, plan post-secondary, find a way to survive Balto’s psychotic brother. Fantastic right…
“I like it better when you’re a cat” I murmured, my comment made him stiffen his muscles freezing as he held me.
“Why?” his voice was guarded.
“You were so small and soft, and cute and fluffy” I couldn’t help the grin, he chuckled petting the back of my head.
“So you would be fine being mine, even if I’m a cat 90% of the time?”
“Who ever said I was yours?”
His arms curled a little tighter around me, “I did”
“So what now that you’re taller than me you’re the boss?” I pouted.
He chuckled and nodded his head, “I was always the boss Sybelle, but now I can protect you, at least for a week”
I wrapped my hand around his forearm that was pressed to my stomach, I leaned back against his chest and let out a heavy sigh.
