I sat in the bleachers and watched Finn do suicides across the field. He was sweating perfusly while the other football players were having a grand old time doing their own thing.
The wind blew a quiet breeze as I heard the rocks under the bleachers fill with footsteps. The bleachers started to rumble as Amelia appeared and smiled to me. She climbed up to where I was and set her bag down. "Mind if I sit?" She asked. "No, not at all." I patted the seat next to me. I turned my attention back to the field and continued to watch Finn. "I thought I'd see you before we get all sweaty and horrifying on Monday." She chuckled. "Yeah, I'm not excited to start practicing so early since we just got back into school, but I'm determined to win again." I explained. "Why are you sitting here? It's Friday, you should be starting your weekend." She tucked her hair behind her ear.
"I can't drive because of my boot, and Finn is gonna be here for a while. I wanted to make sure he was okay so he offered to drive me home." I shrugged. "You must be really worried about him." Amelia blushed. "Oh yeah, you have no idea. What about you?" "Waiting on my mom." She pointed behind her. I nodded and watched Finn start talking to Coach Bieste. "So, why is everyone so obsessed with you and Finn? Not asking that to be rude, but I've never ever seen people go in awe over a different couple before." I grinned to myself and looked down at the binder sitting in my lap. "Well, I had moved here from Monroe in September. And when we met we just became best friends, and then he started to fall for me without my knowledge. Then, we kissed at a Valentine's dance and so that just hit it off." It felt nice remembering last school year.
"It must've killed everyone just watching you guys not do anything after that dance." She started watching all the football players with me. "Oh yeah. They just better be as glad as I am to be dating him." I laughed. There was a long silence while I listened to the wind whistle against the bleachers. Finn started catching footballs from the automatic machine, and every time one hit his chest, I flinched. "I remember seeing that story on the TV of when the Lima Bean got shot up." She softly said. I looked at her as she continued on. "I was in my Calculus class when it happened. We had the TV on the discovery channel and then they interrupted it. And they put the middle school on lock down since we're closer than the highschool and elementary. It was all that was ON TV for the next two weeks."
"Yeah, it sucked." I agreed. "Is that why you have that scar across your whole cheek?" She looked at me. I smiled and put my hair to the other side to show the whole thing. "Yep. The bullet skimmed my face and hit Finn immediately." I got the shivers thinking of it. "Did they catch the people who started it?" Amelia turned her attention back to the field. "Over the summer I think. Me and Finn have to go to court next month to testify and be present for the sentencing." I cracked my knuckles. "Good luck. I don't think I'd be able to face any of them." She bit her lip. "I don't think I will either, but thanks." I gestured.
I looked down to myself and played with my thumbs. The bleachers started to rumble again and Puck, Sam, and another player climbed up to us. "Alright ladies, you can't just sit here and watch us sexy men working out without a little something-something." Sam flexed his arms. "Oh good god." I covered my forehead. "What's going on?" Amelia laughed as they grabbed her arm. Sam helped me down and onto the golfcart. They drove us to the middle and we sat down in two chairs they pulled up. The next thing I knew, the boys were doing the most sexiest dance they could do.
I looked at Amelia and bursted out laughing. Finn and another player started grinning and walking towards us. They both sat in our lap and wiggled their shoulders in our faces. Amelia squealed with laughter as I tried to catch my breathe. "Finn Michael Hudson I swear to god." I managed to get out. He began laughing and fell off my lap and brought me with him. I started crying with laughter as the football players got Amelia out of her seat and started dancing around the field with her. I looked back at Finn and he leaned in to kiss me. I turned my head and got myself up. He grunted and got up with me as I tried running. Since I couldn't do much of any walking, Finn was able to catch up with me. He wrapped his arms around my abdomen and picked me up. I kicked as much as I could as he dragged me to the golf cart and sat me on the back. He put his hands on mine so I couldn't move them as I squirmed.
"You better kiss me, I waited all of Sophomore year to get it." He chuckled playfully. I pursed my lips into my mouth so they wouldn't show and he started poking my hips, knowing how ticklish I am. "FINN." I screamed. "Okay boys, back to work." Bieste said into the bullhorn. I leaned in and gave him a kiss as Amelia came running to the cart with the football players behind her. "DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE." She yelled to the assistant coach who was driving it as she jumped into the seat. He hit the gas as we grinned and waved goodbye to the boys. "Welcome to McKinley High." I smiled to her. He dropped us off back at the bleachers and Amelia saw her mom pull up. She walked up to the bleachers with me and helped me sit back down. "Thanks for the little fun time. I'll see you Monday." She hugged me.
I watched her go down and disappear away from the bleachers. I looked up to the football field and continued on with watching him practice.
