Surprise

Finding love on campus was easy for Sean; he was attractive, smart, and just one of the men that women flocked to. The ladies were stuck on him, wanting to be the next one on his sugar stick. It was hard for Sean to deny the tasty treats with their lemon drops and he knew that he couldn't keep ignoring them. There were so many choices to make, but he knew that he should only choose one. The women were like lollipops, so many flavors that would tantalize your taste buds. For weeks Sean enjoyed licking the lollipops and suckling on their lemon drops; however, he still felt that none of them were the one for him. The one lady that caught his attention was Pheaton; she was the kind of girl that could bless your socks off. She was raised in the church, she sang in the choir, and she hosted several programs for the homeless throughout the year. She had a lot going on for herself and she wore that badge with honor as she walked around with her nose turned up at most people. She was not innocent by far; however her flaws were not easily seen like most. Pheaton came off as a polite young lady; she kept her life private and only highlighted her hard work she did by helping others.

From time to time Sean sent me messages with a greeting from Pheaton. I knew that sooner or later he was going to have to pull the rabbit from the hat; because the show he was putting on was not fooling me. I did not push him for a proper introduction, I just waited patiently. With Wendy in the house, I knew that Sean would not bring her around. At one point in time I believe that he was tempted; however, I knew that my son would not do anything like that. The vibration at my hip sent waves of jitters to me, one after another. Taking the phone from the clip I saw that it was a message from Sean.

See you at three and I have a surprise for you.

At that very moment my mind ran through all sorts of portals, wondering what he could be up to. It would not be the first time he surprised me bringing gifts. Looking up at the clock on my wall it was half past one and I still had a lot of work to do. Focusing on my students, I continued to grade papers. My thoughts reverted back to the text message I got from Sean as I shuffled the file documents from one pile to the next. Curious about the surprise, I wanted to pick up the phone and call him. My fingers ran swiftly over the keys as I typed messages to my student informing them of the graded papers. Before long it was ten minutes to three o'clock, but there was no Sean. Instead I get a message from him with instructions.

Meet me at our favorite spot, I'm in route.

This boy knows he has lost his damn mind thinking that I am going to run around town looking for him. As I got myself together, I did one final check in the mirror. Teasing my hair and plucking my lips, I was satisfied with how I looked; grabbing my purse and keys, I locked the door behind me. Pulling up in front of the building, the red and white stripped banner greeted me. I walked inside to find Sean standing at the front door of T.G.I.F.

"Mom, you made it and just in time. I put in our order already and the food should be arriving shortly."

Leaning forward he kissed me on the cheek and took me by the hand leading me to the table where we was sitting at.

"Hey baby, what is this surprise you have for me?"

"You will find out soon enough; mom just relax and be yourself. Tonight everything is on me."

Walking through the restaurant I followed behind Sean as we went to our table. I noticed that he was looking around as if he was distracted. Taking a seat, I sat across from him and we began to talk.

"Son it is so good to see you again; tell me what did you order for me? Did you get me a drink?"

"I ordered us a steak, chicken, and shrimp platter. I didn't order you a drink because I didn't want it to get watered down."
