The sound of gunshots echoed throughout the dark alley that was behind the basement. Mum sprung to her feet at once and I quickly follow suite.

The first things that I noticed when we finally made our way out of the alley were the bright red and blue lights that seemed to be flashing from every angle. The next thing that I realized were the loud sounds of sirens blaring throughout the section.

Mum surprisingly did not seem at all fazed by our current situation, because she continued to sprint down the pavements that where somehow hidden by the shadows of the huge houses beside it.

We weaved through the section without a second to pause. Jumping, sliding and hopping past any and every obstacle that dared to get in our way.

Soon enough section 15 was behind us and the sounds of the sirens began to slowly fade away, but we still didn't stop to catch a breath.

Once again the night was silent, the only sounds to be heard were that of our feet making contact with the cemented pavements and my wild heartbeat which I thought was loud enough to wake up the entire section.

I tried to stop and catch a well deserved breath. Although mum apparently did not see the need for that because she grabbed my arm and forcefully jerked me forward.

As we ran through the dimly lit streets of the other sections, my mind raced with a thousand and one questions that I had managed to keep locked up until now.

Why exactly was it such a crime to be different? I mean there had to be a reason that 'what I am' was so bad, unless off curse it was just illegal to be as epicly awesome as me...its totally understandable to be jealous but I think this was taking it a bit too far.

My stupid over thinking caused me to loose focus on where I was going so I ended up tripping on a crack in the pavements. As if on cue, the sounds of sirens once again invade my ears and then I'm dragged to my feet. We started to run immediately we saw a cop a cop car round the corner, speeding towards us.

Mum made a sharp left which I copied and we found ourselves in yet another alleyway. We run to the end where a large fence intercepts our path. I looked at mum wearily and watched with wide eyes as she climbed the fence, jumping over it with a sort of effortless grace.

how did she even...?

She shouted at me to jump as she stands at the other side. My heart rate picks up when I heard heavy footsteps behind me, nervously I scrambled up the metal fence and just as I was about to jump off a loud bang echoes through the night, then I felt a huge gust of air near my left ear when a tiny black object sails past me, only slightly missing my head.

It took about one split second for me to understand that id just been shot at, after which I hastily jumped of the fence and sprint away with mum directly beside me.

We look both ways before turning each corner and tried now to be more careful and hidden as we ran through about 5 more sections before reaching the third one. By now I was completely out of breath, my lungs and feet screamed in protest.

Now section three had to have been the most run down by far, my guess was that this was because only the unevolved lived. The houses were incredibly dull looking, most of them seemed on the verge of collapsing.

I stared at our surroundings sadly and suddenly realized that mum had started slowing down. I had a very bad feeling about the way things were going.

It felt too much like those horror movies were you'd be screaming at the main characters to run AWAY from the place with the creepy houses...but obviously they never did listen.
