Stacy Robertson shut off the recording and thought to himself, "How did I end up like this?"

Although he was in a job where he saw his best friend every day, he still was wondering why no one ever seemed to acknowledge how hard he was working. He was developing a formula that could cure depression. Yet, as he worked harder and harder, he started to feel depressed. Sure, he could benefit humanity by following orders, or he could work on his own, creating exciting experiments that could do more than anything someone told him to do. The most annoying fact was that he couldn't test the experiment because not a single other organism besides humans had the same psyche (therefore the same results could not be received from any non-human test subject) and that Cellophane Labs had not yet responded to his request for permission to test on human subjects. Of course, all that was about to change.

"Mail's here!" called the post-person.

A small, yellow letter stamped with the insignia of Cellophane Labs fell through the mail slot in his door. Quickly, Stacy got up to grab the mail. As he picked up the envelope and unfolded it, he didn't have to look twice to see that this letter was from his boss (slash) best friend, Dr. Brendan Eiru. His handwriting was unmistakably round and messy. However, his words were in clearer lines, compared to the other letters that Stacy had received. The letter said:

Dr. Robertson:

One week from now is the day the new anti-depressant formula is released to the masses. However, I have been reviewing your lab records and you still haven't tested it yet. Unfortunately, desperate times call for drastic measures. If you don't have a functioning formula by next week, I'm afraid you will have to be replaced.

Sincerely,

Dr. Eiru

Now what was he supposed to do? This was a surprisingly negative note from his best friend, but it wasn't like he had a choice in the matter. What Stacy didn't know was that this note was forged. In the meantime, Stacy went to bed and prepared himself for the long day ahead of him tomorrow.

<wow! he had no idea what was coming.>
