Scene 7: Benzedrine's Lab

Later that day, Gin had called and said she'd be back soon. While he was waiting, Dr. Benzedrine was working on the weather controlling gloves when he made the mistake of singing a catchy song that was stuck in his head.

"Sometimes I want to quit this all and become an accountant now...

But I'm no good at math...

and besides, the dollar is down..."

(Fall Out Boy - The [Shipped] Gold Standard | 2008)

Suddenly, his shadow took on a sinister shape and ruby-red pinprick eyes.

"What did I tell you about singing?!? Now, you will pay the price!"

Dr. Benzedrine's vision blurred, then he felt like he was hit extremely hard from the back.

Suddenly, he could see himself taking the gloves and ripping out pipes and crucial tubing from them.

"No! Please don't! Stop! I- I'll do anything!" His body responded with, "Why should I?"

Dr. Benzedrine could see Gin's car slowly head up to the driveway.

"Look, Gin is going to be here soon, and if she sees you destroying all my hard work, she might not trust me anymore!" "Will you stop pestering me with that squawk box you call a voice?" "Yes, yes, just please don't destroy my gloves!" "Fine..."

Again, Dr. Benzedrine's vision blurred, and he felt a pull from the front. The next thing he knew, he was back in his body. Suddenly, Gin walked through the door.

"Hey, Stacy! I found these really cool... What are you doing to your gloves?" Dr. Benzedrine sighed with relief. "Gin! Oh, thank goodness! Something terrible just happened."

Gin looked worried. "Oh no! Tell me, what happened? Besides the... whatever it is... that happened to your gloves?"

Dr. Benzedrine tried to explain to Gin what had happened. "Gin, do you remember when I was in the hospital?"

Gin nodded. "Of course I do... Does this have something to do with what you saw in your hallucination?"

Dr. Benzedrine sighed. "In my hallucination, I came face to face with a massive, shadowy creature known as the Doctor. They told me that if I did anything to bother them, they would make me pay the price. Of course, at the time, I thought that what I had witnessed was simply a hallucination, and nothing more. However, that creature still lurked in the far corners of my mind. Today, while I was working on my weather-controlling gloves, I made the mistake of singing a song I heard at Sandman's house that was stuck in my head. I believe that whenever I do something that bothers them, they'll come back."

Gin gave Dr. Benzedrine a hug, and comforted him by saying, "Hey... You don't have to worry about it. No matter what it does to you, I won't think any less of you. OK?"

"Thank you, Gin. You've made me feel a lot better."

Dr. Benzedrine gave her a small bouquet of yellow flowers, then calmly dismissed her. After Gin left, in order to calm down without angering the Doctor, he decided to do something that he hadn't done in a while: play his viola. As Dr. Benzedrine opened its case and dusted off the beautiful instrument, unbeknownst to him, someone was listening.

Out on the streets in front of Dr. Benzedrine's house, Dr. Brendan Eiru was walking home. His colleagues had sent him away, he didn't have that much to do, and his revenue was slowly decreasing. As he slowly trudged home, he heard his ex-best friend playing the viola. The familiar melody of the song "My Favorite Things," from the musical The Sound of Music drifted out from the window of Dr. Benzedrine's house. Gin's car drove off down the street from his house.

As soon as Brendan noticed this, he thought, "That backstabbing--- Now she has the audacity to immediately apply to be his assistant? Does she even know who I am?"

He began to hum along to the melody with a tune of his own invention.

"There are no

Raindrops on roses, and girls in white dresses

And sleeping with roaches

And taking bad guesses

At the shade of the sheets

(Before all the stains)

And a few more of your least favorite things..."

(Panic! At The Disco - Build God, Then We'll Talk | 2005)

As Brendan turned away from Dr. Benzedrine's house, he turned and walked down Freemont street, the street perpendicular to 4th (where his friend lived). He began to think of how ironic it was that his ex-wife had wanted to cheat on him, similar to the way his own parents met. His mother was looking for someone, and had trapped his rich father into a relationship. In fact, they had met on the corner of these same streets.

"It's these sub-standard motels on the...

Corner of 4th and Freemont Street:

Appealing because they're just that unappealing,

Any practiced Catholic would cross themselves upon entering.

The rooms have a hint of asbestos and maybe just a dash of formaldehyde,

And the habit of decomposing right before your very eyes,

Along with the people inside.

What a wonderful caricature of intimacy!

Besides, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy!"

(Panic! At The Disco - Build God, Then We'll Talk | 2005)

The further he walked, the more he began to wonder why Gin had sabotaged both his and his friend's career. She had almost no reason to do so, yet she still eventually won over Dr. Benzedrine. Brendan took out a small picture of himself and Dr. Benzedrine hanging out around Town Hall.

"Why can't we be friends again? Oh, Stacy... Have you ever wanted to disappear?"

(the screen zooms out, revealing a computer monitor)

<oh, brendan and stacy... if only you knew what was coming... don't worry! things are only going to get better and worse from here. stacy... man, you are going to have some fun with your experiments! the weather controlling gloves were just the tip of the iceberg. soon, you'll be a legend. you'll be remembered for centuries! wait... that sounds like a good song lyric! better send that one to my friends...>
