George's P.O.V
~The next morning~
Even though we had just meat Chris Madison last night, none of our questions were answered (and I have a lot of them). We were all focused on getting home. I still don't really know what happened to Lucy, but she's probably sick now. At the moment though, I wasn't sure witch question of mine I should ask, Lucy sipped her tea constantly, Lockwood silently read the news paper, Holly did some some of the dishes, and Miss Madison was inspecting our Thinking Cloth. I watched her, how she read each note. Holly noticed too.
"It is rather disorganized, Miss Madison, but George insists that we keep it." Holly said, breaking the awkward silence we were all in.
Lockwood looked up from the paper, and Lucy set her (now empty) tea cup down. Madison however didn't look up from the Thinking Cloth.
"Holly, the Thinking Cloth has never let us down in the past, of course we'd want to keep it." Lockwood replied.
"Couldn't you just write notes? Isn't that easier?" Holly suggested.
"I think" Madison stated, "That the 'Thinking Cloth' is a good idea. As disorganized and ... Strange some of these messages are, it's a genuine and good idea. It shows teamwork and effort for past cases that you've had." She smiled softly looking up.
Lockwood smiled back.
"So you two have known each other?" I asked. "How long?" They glanced at each other.
"Yes, we've known each other." Lockwood answered.
"For 12 years was it?" She turned to him, and he nodded in reply.
"Wouldn't that mean you've known him since he was a child?" Lucy asked in a horribly scratchy voice.
"Yes, I've known him for that long." She replied. "Though he probably doesn't remember that."
"How?" Holly wondered aloud.
"Well, when I first met him, he was three. I was seven at the time. And that was my first international job. I was stationed in London, England where my brother was also studying to be a doctor." We all gazed at her as she told her story.
"See, my parents died when I was four years old, and my family needed money. So my brother when abroad to study for a well paying job. He'd send us money so we could pay for the bare essentials. My sister was an agent, working at a well known agency in my hometown. I wanted to help, so I took on practicing with a rapier. I breezed passed my first through fourth tests and I received a "super secret" fifth test, witch I also passed, and eventually, seven year old me was off to London to fight what most overlook or can't see or hear." She finished.
"What do you mean, 'what most overlook or can't see or hear'?" I ask.
"Type threes, of course! You have to have a spicific level or talent to be able to communicate with them." She explained. Lockwood tensed.
"So," Lucy's scratchy voice was heard, and we all looked to her, "Would a Fitch count as a type three?"
She thought for a moment.
"Yes." She finally replied. "Why do you ask? Have you come across one?"
"Once." Was her only answer.
"Miss Madison?"
"No need to be so formal with me." She put her glasses on and turned to look at Lucy. "You had a question?"
"Hypothetically speaking, is it possible for any type three to predict the future?" She squeaked out.
"Well-"
"No, Lucy." Lockwood interrupted. "No, it is not possible." He stated sternly.
"Hypothetically speaking" Madison started getting Lockwood's attention, "It may be possible, but chances that it's accurate are slim to non-existent."
"It shouldn't be possible though." Lockwood argued.
"'Shouldn't be' are key words. Just like how I shouldn't be able to still hear and see them."
"You specialize in this, right? Have you ever come across one that could predict the future?" I asked.
"I've run into some. None were ever accurate though."
"So it is possible?"
"Possible, but highly unlikely." She adjusted her glasses.
"But they're memories of past tragic events..." Holly pitched in.
"Type ones and twos are the past," She stated sadly, "Type threes, however, are memories of the past, living in the present. As for future prediction, it's been unclear if they can. I believe that there is a possibility, but a very low one."
"So," Lucy croaked, "Even if it were to predict what may or may not happen to you, it's more than likely wrong?"
"Yes." Madison tilted her head in question. "If I may ask, why do you want this information?"
"We came across one on a past case of ours. It must have said something to Lucy because this is not a new question...." Lockwood gazed over at Lucy, who was fiddling with her empty cup.
"Earlier you said you shouldn't be able to still hear or see them. Why is that?" I asked in hopes of getting more answers.
"I'm a 19 year old international agent. My talents should have dulled by now." Her eyes meat mine, "I believe that I have a genetic mutation making me able to still see and hear these ghosts. But that's just a theory."
"Shouldn't your brother be able to help solve that mystery? Since he's a doctor?" Holly asked.
"Maybe. I haven't seen him for six years." She answered.
Our conversation ended shortly after that, and we all dispersed to different parts of the house. Lockwood, the rapier room downstairs, Lucy had dibs on the first bath, and Holly was finishing up the dishes. Madison explored the house a bit. I caught her in the library, looking at the different array of books we had. I walked over to see what she was looking at.
"Funny..." She whispered to herself, "You'd think that after six years, he would get tiered of the same old books and get some new ones..." She chuckled to herself. "Guess not..."
I cleared my throat. She was a lot more jumpy than I would expect a 19 year old agent would be. She turned.
"Oh! George! You startled me..." She turned back at the books.
"You seem to know this place pretty well." I started.
"Probably only this floor too. Six years and people change." She said.
I laughed. "Want some help finding witch rooms are who's?"
"If you're not doing anything important at the moment." She gave me a bright smile.
