An hour later, I was ready to go. I was pulling on a pair of black flats to accompany my dark blue skater dress. My hair was fanning around my face in large curls and I was wearing the most makeup I'd ever worn my entire life. I threw a small purse over my shoulder.
I was officially ready to go.
I sat down on the couch, situating my dress in a ladylike manner. I had only wore a dress three times, and I still hadn't learned to like them. I could smell my mom cooking dinner, but I resisted.
Cole was taking me out for dinner.
I was actually going on a date. The idea brought a happy smile to my face. I tapped my foot impatiently, waiting for 6:30 to roll around. It seemed like decades before there was a knock at the door. I jumped up energetically, slipping my phone into my purse.
"Bye, mom!" I called, making my way excitedly over to the door.
"Bye, love you!" My mom hollered back and I put a smile on my face as I opened the door.
The smile immediately turned upside down.
Dallas was standing in the doorway, his eyes taking me in.
"Hey," he said. "What are you all fancy for?" His voice was sheepish, as thought it unnerved him that I was wearing attractive clothing for once. I rolled my eyes.
"None of your business. You have to go." I placed a hand on his chest, giving him a small push. He grabbed my wrist, pushing it off.
"Come on, Bookworm. I just wanna talk."
"The lowly Bookworm doesn't have time to to talk to the prince." I retorted, trying to close the door on him.
"Sadie." Dallas said, as though he was condemning me for my childish behavior. I sighed, realizing I probably did need to offer him an explanation.
"I'm going to hang out with someone tonight, and I'd really appreciate it if you weren't here when said person shows up." I said, my voice sounding bored and monotone. Dallas raised an eyebrow.
"Hang out? Are you going on a date?" I could see his jaw clench, but he still tried to maintain an amused demeanor.
"Sort of." I mumbled, then realized Dallas was the one who friend zoned me. I was not going to feel bad about having a date. "Yes, I am. With Cole." I didn't really need to add the Cole part, and I probably shouldn't of, but I couldn't help it. I wasn't pining over him, not anymore.
"Cole?" Dallas repeated, as though he couldn't believe it. "Sadie, your smart. But that's a really stupid move."
"Excuse me?" I demanded, crossing my arms.
"Is this because of the stupid dice game the other day? The questions we asked?"
"What are you talking about?" I asked, trying to sound angry, and hiding the fact that he had guessed what was going on.
Dallas sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"I'm just going to say it, okay?"
"Say what?" My voice rose, and I threw my hands up in exasperation. I looked behind me, expecting my mom to peek her head around the corner. I pushed Dallas out in the hall before joining him and closing the door to our apartment. "Okay, say what?"
"You like me." Dallas said, a lot louder than was necessary.
I took everything in my power to keep my jaw from dropping.
It's one thing to admit you like a person. It's another thing for that person to come out and announce that you do for no reason.
"Your an idiot." I muttered.
