I walked into the classroom, sitting in my desk and getting my homework out, setting it in the corner of the desk. It was something we did so it was easier for the teacher when they collected the papers. There weren't many people in the classroom, just the teacher, two girls playing on their phones and chewing gum, loudly, and myself. I usually went into the class early to avoid all the bullying that goes on in the hallways, and I was always the main target. Nobody messes with me when the teachers are around though, cause most of them are parents who understand that my top priority is my daughter.
After a few more minutes, more people came in the class, including Abby. "Hey Michael," she said, getting out her own homework and putting it in the corner of the table. "How was your weekend?"
"Good, what about yours?" I asked.
"It was amazing. My boyfriend came and we spent the whole weekend catching up, I even told him all about you and Anna. He was a little jealous at first, but I assured him that we were only friends, nothing more."
"Yeah, nothing more," I mumbled. My stomach started to twist, my chest hurt, my head ached. What's going on? I'm not jealous, am I?
"Okay class, everyone take your seat and get out your homework." Everyone did as the teacher said, and surprisingly everyone had there homework. Usually there was a couple of people who forgot to do it or 'lost it'. After she came around and got all the homework, she started the lesson. "Okay class, so today we will..."Not a lot of people were paying attention. Most of them where either on their phones, talking, of trying to flirt with someone on the other side of the room. I was on of the people not paying attention, but Abby was, that is until her phone buzzed. I glanced over at her and saw her checking a text message. I couldn't see what it said, but when I saw her usual perky smile drop, I knew it wasn't good. I could tell she was fighting back tears, and a couple even slid down her face, but she soon wiped away the tears and looked up from her phone. I quickly turned my head so I was facing forward again, but kept my eyes on her the whole time. She wanted to cry, but kept it together as much as she could. What was on that message? I though.
About halfway into the class, she finally broke. "Miss, can I go to the restroom," she asked.
"Of coarse Abigail," the teacher said before continuing with her lesson. Abby got up and began to walk out of the room, but dropped her phone on the was out. Nobody really paid attention, so nobody mentioned it or grabbed it. I quickly grabbed the phone, making it seem like I dropped my pencil, and set it in my pocket, keeping it safe until I get the chance to get it back to her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Abigail never came back to class, and she didn't show up to any of the other ones afterward, so after school I decided to look for her. She wasn't in the gym, or the music room, or the band room, and her friend Lana said she wasn't in and of the girls bathrooms or locker room.
After half an hour of searching, I finally found her under the football field bleachers. She had her legs curled up to her chest, crying into her knees. I sighed and walked up to her, reaching in my pocket and I sat down next to her. "You dropped this," I said, handing her her phone. She jumped when she heard me and quickly wiped away her tears and took the phone. "So what's wrong?" She knew she couldn't hide it from me, especially since I just saw her crying, she told me, or rather showed me. She showed me the text message she got earlier. It was a pictured of a guy kissing some blonde chick, and a text under it read, 'Isn't that your boyfriend?'
"He cheated on me, with some random chick. He doesn't even know that person. I gave him everything, I loved him, I helped him, I did everything I possibly could, and then he does this to me. Why re guys such jerks?" she asked, bringing her knees back to her chest.
I sighed, getting up and reaching my hand out to her, "Come on, we're leaving."
"W-where are we going?" She asked, grabbing my hand.
"My place," I replied, hoisting her off the ground. "I'm not leaving you alone at a time like this. You need a friend, a shoulder to cry on, and I'm going to be there for you.""W-what about Anna?"
"She's with my mom for the week. She hasn't seen her in awhile with her traveling and all, so I let her take the week off of school." She smiled slightly, wiping away some more tears. I smiled back and began walking, "let's go."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sat next to her on the couch, handing her a bowl of ice cream, cookies, some water, and a punch of tissues. "Thanks," she said, putting a spoonful of ice cream in her mouth. "You know, I wasn't talking about you, when I said what I said before, about guys being jerks. I wish all guys were like you actually. Any girl would be lucky to have you as a boyfriend, and Anna's lucky to have you as a father.""Thanks," I said with a smile. She smiled back in return, leaning closer to my body. Her head was resting on my shoulder and her body pressed against mine. My cheeks turned a deep red as butterflies filled my stomach. I admit it, I like her, and I've never liked anyone like this before. Anna doesn't count, I love her like she's family, because she is, but with Abby it's different. I was knew to this crush thing, and had no idea what to do, so I just panicked. "S-so, um, do you want to watch a movie?" I asked, getting up and causing her to fall onto the couch more. I heard her chuckle as I walked up to the DVD stand, going through all the movies.
You're such and idiot Michael! That was your chance and you blew it! I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn't even realize Abigail beside me. "Anna sure does like Disney," she said. I jumped a little and rubbed the back of my neck nervously. "Lucky for her, so do I," she said smiling.
I smiled back, clearing my throat before I spoke. "You can pick whatever movie you want," I told her. "I honestly don't care what we watch, I've seen them all already."
She looked around a bit until she spotted a movie that looked interesting to her, "How about this?" I looked at the cover and saw it read 'Finding Nemo.'
She is so like Anna, I thought. "Sounds good to be," I said. I grabbed the movie from her hands and popped it in the DVD player. I then went into the kitchen and began popping a bowl of popcorn. When it was done popping, I put it in a bowl and sat back down next to Abby. We watched the movie, ate popcorn and other snacks, and talked once in awhile. About halfway into the movie Abby's head ended up on my shoulder again, but this time my arm was around her waist, pulling her closer to me. It was like I didn't have control over my body. My mind was telling me to stop, saying this was wrong, my my heart was telling me to go further.
"Hey Michael," Abby said. I looked down at her, our gazes meeting and a smile on her face. She moved her face closer to me and planted a small, quick kiss on my cheek before setting her head back on my shoulder. "Thank you, for everything."A reddish pink color tinted my cheeks as I smile plastered itself on my face. I kissed the top of her head slightly, saying, "You're welcome, Abby."
