I twisted the lock on my locker, putting in the combinations before hearing a click as I opened it. I put away my books and grabbed the ones I needed for my next class. Once I was done I shut my locker only to see Abigail standing next to me, her hands behind her back and a smirk on her face. "Oh, hey Abby, what's up?"

She put her hands out in front of my face to show she was holding a small blue box in her hands. "Happy birthday!" She said in her normal cheery voice. It was a week after prom, the day of my 20th birthday. I was the oldest student in the school, all because I was held back two years because of all the days I missed taking care of Anna. In what seemed to be short week ever, Abigail and I have become boyfriend and girlfriend, and Anna won't stop talking about how she thinks we are going to get married.

"Thank you, but you didn't have to get me anything."

"It's your birthday, of course I was going to get you something. Now open it." I removed the lid to the box and saw a silver watch inside.

"Wow, this is amazing, thank you."

"I wasn't really sure what to get you, so this was the only thing I could think of. I can return it and get something else if you want."

"No, no, this is perfect. Thank you so much Abby," I said. I wrapped my arms around her small form and pulled her into a huge bear hug, engulfing her with my massive body. I kissed her cheek before pulling away and putting the watch on. "Maybe now I won't be late for work," I joked. "Oh, speaking of work. I hate to ask this, but do you think you can watch Anna tonight? My boss called and asked me to come in tonight."

"I would love to, but I thought you had Fridays off."

"I do, but apparently there's going to be some kind of party and there aren't enough people."

"Oh, I see. Where exactly do you work?" She asked with curiosity.

"I'm a bartender at Novas," I told her.

"A bartender? Don't you have to be 21?"

"That's drinking. You can be a bartender at 18."

"Oh, I never knew that." The bell rang, signaling we have a minute to get to class before we're late. "Well, I better get going. I'll see you tonight," Abby quickly kissed my cheek before quickly walking to her next class.

The rest of the day went by pretty fast. Just reviewing for our exams coming up the following week and a bunch of other stuff we already know. When I got home I quickly went inside and started cooking dinner, soon after Anna's bus dropped her off.

"Daddy, daddy, guess what I made for you in art today!" Annabelle exclaimed.

"What did you make?" I asked her. She set her backpack on the table and pulled out a picture of three people.

"It's me, you, and Abby," she said, pointing at each person when she said who they were.

"That's very nice Anna. Speaking of Abby, I have to go into work today so Abigail is going o watch you."

She nodded excitingly and hopped down from the counter. "I can't wait to show her my picture."

"I'm sure she'll love it," I said, turning back to the stove. "Dinner will be ready in a couple of minutes so go wash up."

As she left the room I grabbed a couple of plates and filled them both up with the stir fry I had made. I set them down across from each other and waited. Soon Anna came back out and we began eating. "Remember to behave yourself, and no hide n' seek this time," I said in between bites.

"Okay."

The doorbell rang and I got up to answer it and of course saw Abby. "Hey Michael," she said.

"Hey Abby, come in. We were just having dinner, there's some left on the stove if you want some."

"Thank you, but I already ate."

"That's fine," I said. I quickly looked down at my watch and my eyes widened. "I better go before I'm late." I quickly scarfed down the last couple bites of food, rinsed off my plate, grabbed my stuff, and headed for the door. I quickly kissed the both of them goodbye before heading off to my car.

I watched as my daddy kissed Abby and leave. I smiled as a blush spread on her face and she looked at me. "What are you smiling about?" She asked.

"Oh, nothin'" I said back, putting my plate in the sink.

"Okay, well what do you want to do first?"

"Lets go play dolls," I said, grabbing her arm and pulling her into my room. We sat down in the middle of the floor and I pulled a couple shoe boxes out from under my bed. I opened one to reveal five dolls, then opened the other to reveal a bunch of clothes and accessories.

"So, which is mine?" Abby asked, looking at the dolls.

"Uh...this one," I said, grabbing a short, brown haired one and handing it to her.

"Thank you," she said, grabbing the doll and looking her over. "She's very beautiful."

I smiled and set the other dolls up in a sitting position. "So, its school time and your the teacher and these are the students."

"Okay," she laughed, laying stomach down as the started getting into character. "Okay class, today we will be..."

"Here's your paycheck Michael," my boss said, handing my my weekly paycheck.

"Thank you sir," I said, grabbing it and looking it over. I was expecting my usual $350, but today was different. "Um, sir, you seem to have given me to much," I said, reaching out to hand him the check back.

He pushed it back towards me and smiled, "consider it a birthday gift."

"Thank you sir," I said before turning out the door.

I got into my rusty old truck and began my drive home. Soft music played on the radio as I drove, enjoying the beautiful night scenery. I may be a guy, but having a daughter sure made me a sappy suck up.

The drive was boring, but luckily short. I pulled in front of my apartment complex within five minutes of leaving the bar. I shut off the trunk and headed for my apartment. When I got in there I saw Abby sitting at the kitchen counter, doing some homework and drinking some coffee. "How was work?" She asked, not even looking up from her own work.

"Tiring," I replied. "Anna asleep?"

"Yeah, she went to bed an hour ago."

I smiled and walked up behind her, hugging her and kissing her cheek. "Thank you for everything," I said, resting my head on her shoulder.

She faced me and smiled, giving me a kiss back. All of a sudden there was a knock on the door, scaring the both of us and causing us to jump. "Who could that be at this hour?"

"I don't know," I said. I walked up to the door and opened it to reveal a man in either his late twenties or early thirties.

"E-excuse me, are you Michael Little?" the man asked.

"Um...yes? I'm sorry, who are you?"

"My name is David Cross, I need to speak with you about your daughter, Annabelle."

"Are you one of the Anna's friend's father?"

"Not exactly, but I am one of the student's father."

"Um, okay. Come in," I said, stepping aside for him to come in. I watched cautiously as he walked in, looking around the room.

"Is Anna here?" he asked.

"She's asleep. Now what exactly do you need to talk about."

"Okay, I am just going to come straight forward with this." I sat next to Abby at the counter and looked at the man, giving him a look saying to go on. "I'm Annabelle's biological father."
