Olivia was sitting at an entirely too crowded table in the lunch room when she felt her phone buzz in her purse. She dug inside of it like an American Picker before finally finding it at the very bottom. She opened her text inbox and seen one from the “unknown” number she’d seen earlier that weekend.
Follow me to my house after 8th lets out. I’ve got something planned.
She grinned and placed her phone back in her purse.
“Oh, I was meaning to ask you, what’s the deal with those flowers?” Kenley asked, crunching on a bag of Sunchips.
“Nothin’, why?” Her smile was visible, but she couldn’t stop it.
“Nothin’. I think you’re a big fat liar.”
“Well, I’m not a big fat liar. But, could you get Trevor or someone to drive you home today? I’ve got some . . . stuff . . . to do.”
“I’m sure you do you big slut,” Kenley winked. “Yeah, I already assumed so Trevor said he’d drive me.”
Olivia counted her steps towards the car, careful to walk slow and not run to her car. She sent a message to Nick asking him for his address and that she would just GPS her way. She didn’t want anyone seeing the two leave together, whether they were in separate vehicles or not. She sat in her car, waiting and watching as Nick casually walked out of the double doors. He held up a hand as a signal of a wave and he climbed into his car and pulled away. Olivia waited an extra ten minutes before turning the GPS on and heading in Nick’s direction.
What does he have planned?
The fact of not knowing was enough to keep Olivia literally bouncing in her seat as she was driving. Her mind flashed back to his words. He wanted her. He wanted to try with her and give it an honest go. There had been a chemistry burning between the two that was undeniable. It didn’t matter that he was an educator and that Olivia was his student. What mattered was what they were feeling in their hearts; a feeling that had been there since she first nearly scalded him with his coffee.
It’s obviously too early to know if we’ll work out, right? What if it doesn’t? What if it does . . .? What if someone finds out? Do I take the high road and deny it or do I own up to it and accept responsibility? Should I tell Kenley? She shook her head. No, no one needs to know until later. Has he done this type of thing before? That’s impossible, actually. This is his first year teaching. Unless, there were others maybe I don’t know about. She sighed. She tried to relax her nerves, but no relief was coming.
Her thoughts were interrupted by her phone buzzing and she grabbed it and pressed it to her ear.
“Yes, Kenley?” she said with a smile in her voice.
“I just wanted to call and remind you that you’re a whore. But I hope you have fun and I love you.”
“Aw, that’s sweet. I’d say thank you but there’s a lot of hostility mixed into that sentence so I’m going to just take it as an insult. But I love you, too.”
She hung up and laughed to herself. Kenley won’t be ignoring this “secretive” life Olivia was about to attempt to live. She knew regardless, though, that Kenley would accept it for what it was when the time actually came to tell her.
Olivia pulled up and immediately noticed Mr. Cereno’s car parked in the cul-de-sac driveway and she pulled in behind it. The house was located from back from the road and was surrounded by hundreds of trees. You wouldn’t be able to notice it unless you were looking for it specifically. Her blood was pumping hard in her veins. She looked at herself in the mirror for a split second and pulled the lever on her car door. As she was walking up to his house, she saw him sitting on the porch steps next to a horse-like dog.
