"But Jake, what did I do?!" You were arguing with your boyfriend, wondering why he wanted to break up with you.

"Don't be stupid!! I saw you cheating on me with that Max dude!!" Jake spat into the phone. Your face contorted into disgust at Jake's reason.

"That Max dude is my friend!!" You said in an offended tone clutching onto the phone.

"Whatever, (Y/N). I'm done." Jake said harshly before the line went dead.

You turned off your own phone in anger and threw it on your bed. Soon your anger turned into tears and it burned your eyes when you tried to hold them back.

You held your knees to your chest as you sobbed into them. Because it was out of frustration, you stopped crying after three minutes.

You picked up your phone again wanting help; you knew you couldn't do this alone. So you called Max.

"Hello?" His voice in the phone.

"M-max?" You stuttered, your voice still wavering.

"(Y/N)? What's wrong?!" His happy tone turned into great concern.

"Jake broke up with me." You said about to cry again.

"That bastard." Max muttered. You sniffled as he went on. "I'm coming over." Then the call ended.

Turning off your phone again, you got up from the bed and went to your bathroom. There, you splashed cold water on your face. In the mirror you saw yourself with red eyes and a red nose.

Then you picked up a towel and dried your face. After that, you went down to the kitchen to wait for Max. It brought some happiness to you that you had a shoulder to cry on.

20 minutes passed and there was a knock at your door. You got up to open it, and when you did, you and Max embraced for a hug.

"Tell me, what did the dick do?" Max began petting your hair. You moved your face from his chest to look up at him.

"He said that I've been spending too much time with you. I told him you're my best friend, but his blind ass couldn't see that." You pressed the side of your face onto Max chest again before you started crying again.

You gave out a small sniffle and Max started to scramble again.

"Hey hey hey, (Y/N). Look at me." He took your chin in his fingers and brought your face up to look at him. You blinked and a couple tears slipped.

"Don't cry. Don't cry for that son of a bitch. You deserve so much better than him. You need someone who trusts you and loves you..."

You only stared at Max's dark brown eyes.

"Like me." Max then sighed letting go of your chin. He let go of you in the process while walking off further into your house.

As you stood there, you processed Max's words. Your heart started to beat faster.

"Max.." You whispered loud enough for him to hear. As you turned around, you grabbed his shoulder and he stopped.

"Max, do you like me?" You asked the burning question. The ginger turned around slowly trying to avoid contact.

"I'm sorry. That came out at the wrong time–I shouldn't have said it."

"But do you like me?" You asked again. Max only looked at you for a long time, as if his answer would change everything.

"I do."

You stepped closer to Max and hugged him again. You tightly wrapped your arms around his waist. Soon, Max's hands went around your back.

"Maybe you are what I deserve, Max." You whispered, your voice uneven. Max's face nuzzled into your hair as he heard those words.

"But I don't want to be that guy who you just start dating after a breakup. I want you to be ready." Max rubbed up and down your back. You moved your head away to look at him.

"I will be soon. But right now, thank you for being here after what happened with Jake. It really means a lot to know that I have you to count on." You smiled cheekily while your hands hung around Max neck.

Max smiled with joy as he brought you back into a hug.
