Chapter seven

Maddie

I'm sitting in the kitchen of the human's house, Taylor has made us some food.  It's delicious, he's made chicken tikka from scratch!

"Yum, this is amazing Taylor!  Where did you learn to cook?"  Taylor looks up from his plate swallowing a mouthful.

"My brother taught me, Mum was too busy with her drink to feed us so we had to teach ourselves through recipes and things."  I nod my head eating another mouthful.

"Well I think it's amazing and the best tikka I've ever had."  Taylor smiles at me gratefully, Chelsea looks at him with a proud expression.  I drop my fork as a picture flashes into my head, Rachael is being dragged out of her house, she's fighting but it's no use, she's stuck.  I try and look at the person taking her but his face is hidden, I look around the room, nothing is broken, there hasn't been a fight.  They snuck up on her, she had no idea, my sister is in danger.  I look up to see three sets of concerned eyes.

"Are you alright Maddie?"  Elsie asks looking worried.

"Erm, no, I just had a vision about Rachael being abducted."  Everyone stops and stares at me, the room is silent.

"Do you think it's true or is someone playing a trick on you?"  Chelsea asks watching me carefully.

"I'm not sure but I only ever get these visions when Rachael is in trouble, I used to get them when we were younger."  Taylor stands up and takes his plate over to the sink.

"Well do you want to finish eating and go or just go now?"  I look down at my half eaten plate, I'm still hungry and it will be terrible to waste such a good plate of food.  I fill my fork high with food and chew it as quickly as I can, I do this a couple of times before scraping the rest into the bin and placing the plate in the sink.

"Thank you for tea Taylor but I have to go and find my sister."  I turn to walk out of the kitchen but a hand on my shoulder makes me stop.  I turn to see the three of them standing behind me.

"You're not going on your own Maddie, we're coming too.  What are you going to do about Violet?"  Damn I had forgotten about Violet, a pang of guilt fills my heart, what am I going to do?

"Hang on, I have an idea."  I pull out my phone and dial Markell's number, it rings twice before he answers.

"Hey babe, you alright?"  He sounds happy on the other end of the phone.

"Hey Markell,  I really need you to do me a favour and not ask any questions, can you do that?"  He falls silent for a moment.

"Erm, yeah I suppose so."  I take in a deep breath.

"Ok well I really need to go and do something but I can't take Violet with me, so can you please baby sit for a little while?"  Markell laughs down the phone.

"Me? Baby sit?"  Markell doesn't sound sure about it, he lets out a sigh.  "Fine, I guess it won't be any trouble, just drop her round."  I let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank you, you're the best."  I hang up the phone and start packing up my things, used bottles, dummies and clothes.  Violet is asleep in her push chair, I put my bag under it and head for the door.  Everyone follows and Taylor locks the door behind us, I take a quick scan of the street and step out.  Taylor walks in front of me, Elsie and Chelsea walk beside me, they lock me in a protective grid.  "Markell lives with Lea in the main building, it's just round this block."  We pick up speed and turn the corner, the building is in sight.  I can sense the girls looking into the houses, worried about anyone running out.  "Nearly there now."  I say to reassure them,  Amber runs out in front of us, her eyes as red as her hair.  She stops and watches us carefully, her head twisting from side to side, she gnashes her teeth a little before turning away in the opposite direction.

"Why didn't she come after us?"  Taylor asks not taking his eye of Amber.

"I'm not sure but let's move while we can."  We all shuffle forward keeping our eyes on Amber.  We finally reach the steps Taylor takes two at a time, Chelsea skips up them and Elsie helps me carry the pushchair up.  Markell is waiting in the door way, I give him the pushchair and kiss him on the lips.  "Thank you Markell, I don't know how long I will be but look after my little girl, ring me if anything happens and I mean anything."  He nods his head, he looks as if he wants to ask me something but he stops, thinking better of it. I give him one more kiss and make my way down the steps, the others follow behind me.

Rachael

I open my eyes, my head is aching and I can feel that I am chained to something.  I look down at see that my ankle is chained to a metal ring set into the wall.  There is a man leaning against the wall, he is watching me carefully.

"Are you the one who very rudely kidnapped me from my house?"  I ask him standing up and stretching my legs as far as the chain lets me.  He doesn't say anything, he just stands there staring at me.  "O..k, not talking are we?"  I start to pace the small space I have been given, the chain is rattling against the floor.  "Come on, you know you want to talk to me."  I flutter my eyelashes at him and give him a wink but he doesn't seem fazed.  I let out a sigh and slouch against the wall, I look around the room, it's small and very dull.  The walls are grey, there is a chair in the far corner, a bed against the back wall and a sink.  This definitely looks like a prison cell.

"Stand up, she's coming."  The grumpy man says, I stand up straight.

"Whose coming?"  I ask him quickly, the door swings open and the sounds of heels on the cold concrete floor is all I can hear.  I watch in disgust as Veronica walks into the room, she looks at me, her red lips curling into a smirk.

"Hello Rachael."  I glare at her not saying anything, she walks in front of me dragging the chair, she takes a seat and leans back watching me.

"Hello you old hag."  I spit the words out, Veronica's smirk drops slightly.

"Charming as ever I see."  She crosses her arms and squints at me, I give her a sarcastic smile.  "I bet you're wondering why I brought you here."  She doesn't take her eyes off me.

"Ha brought?  More like dragged but yes I am."  Veronica smiles at me before leaning forward.

"I have always thought that you would make an amazing fairy, hence why we turned you in the first place.  You have always been that idiot Blakemore's favourite but of late you've slipped away.  Why is that?"  She looks at me raising her eyebrows, I stare back at her hating her more and more every second.

"I can't stand him and his arrogance and his laziness anymore, he does nothing for that city, he's destroying it."  I shake my head I'm starting to feel tired now.

"He's always been like that Rachael you just never saw it before because you looked up to him.  He is lazy and he doesn't care about your city."  I step forward so that I am closer to her.

"He doesn't care about the city, or the people living in it, he doesn't care about anything or anyone but himself!"  I shout in her face, she blinks rapidly moving back slightly.  "Why else would he set me up and let you kidnap me?"  Veronica looks down at her lap.

"Trust me when I say that he really loves you Rachael, he didn't want to set you up but I threatened to take him down if he didn't.  I need you to get back on track with us fairies, you have been slowly moving closer and closer to the other side and it's changing you.  You made the decision to change from being a witch to a fairy and there's no going back Rachael, you belong to us now and that's never going to change."  Veronica stands up and takes hold of my arms, I try to pull them out of her grip but it's bone crushing tight.

"You don't decide what I do with my life Veronica.  I made a mistake all those years ago and I will repay it, I will do my best to right my wrongs, you will not stop me."  Veronica pushes her chair back into the corner and turns back to me.

"You do not have a choice Rachael and if you try anything I will stop you."  She turns to walk out of the door.

"Don't walk away from me!  This is not finished!"  I scream at her, she keeps walking not looking back.  "This is not finished!"  I let out a scream as the door slams shut, locking me inside with my guilty thoughts.
