Chapter Twelve

Lea

I am standing, waiting, watching. There are only so many times that you can stare out of the same window before you know every chip, scratch and discoloration on the painted frame. I fold my arms behind my back and let out a sigh, where are they? Are they ok? I turn away from the window and begin to pace the room, what happens if they get trapped? Maddie is the second strongest witch in this city, she is the only witch I trust to leave my place to if anything were to ever happen to me. The humans, they mean too much and are far too important to lose now. Our friends, they are so brave to come to our city and fight for us. Oh, what can I do? I stop by the window and stare out of it once again, I hope to spot one of them running this way. The door opens behind me but I don't move, I must not show my fear or my nerves, it will only panic them.

"Hello Mother, you have been in this room for quite some time, are you ok?" Markell asks me with a concerned voice. I stay silent for a minute before turning my head to look at my son. I breathe in a shocked breath so silent that Markell won't notice. He is stunning, I lose my breath everytime I see him, my gorgeous son. His golden eyes pull you in, his pale skin glistens when in the sun and his hair falls perfectly. He is holding Violet, she is curled up comfortably in his arms, her eye lids are fluttering as she dreams. She looks perfect wrapped up in his arms, just as perfect as Maddie and Markell are together, I hope she can forgive him.

"Hello son." I say smiling slightly to ease his worry. "Yes, I am alright, I was just simply staring out of the window waiting for the arrival of the others." I take a seat in my red, velvet arm chair that has a golden frame and legs, I cross one leg over the other.

"Ok, well I'm worried, well, scared actually. They've been gone a while and I fear that something may have gone wrong." Markell's worried face makes my heart melt, he is such a sweetheart.

"They will be fine Markell, Maddie is with them, she is a very strong and intelligent witch. I have all faith in her to bring them back safely." I turn on my heel and face the window again, come on Maddie. Violet begins to wimper behind me, I fight the urge I normally have to just take her into my arms and cuddle her close.

"I hope so, Violet needs her mum." I say nothing, I just stare out of the window, Markell lets out a sad sigh before silently leaving the room. I glance behind me to make sure that I am alone before I let out a sigh of relief. I wish I could be more honest about who I am and be myself but I can't, the city is falling apart, I must stay strong. I slump back into my chair and close my eyes, will life ever get easy? Will there always be a struggle around the next corner, who knows?

Lea? Maddie's voice sounds inside my head, I jump up and quickly walk over to the window. Maddie, are you ok? I talk back. Yes we are all ok, Rachael is hurt and isn't able to heal, we are close now, I am afraid that we may have followers. I turn and head for the door. Ok, we will be prepared, be as quick as you can. I walk into the main hall and see Markell, he is standing next to Flo who is cooing at Violet.

"Markell, they are nearly home. It seems that they may have brought some unwanted company along with them. Flo please will you mind Violet for a while so Markell can help me?" Markell's face drops, he passes Violet over to a very excited Flo and gently kisses her on the forehead. I smile, that's sweet, Maddie will be glad to know that Violet has been in good hands.
