Chapter Nine

Taylor

I close my eyes and reach for the light, I can feel myself disappear.

"Good luck Taylor."  Maddie says looking around not sure where I am exactly.

"Thanks, see you in a bit."  I say making everyone jump slightly, I laugh and head for the door.  I peer up at house, it is an old Victorian house, build high and dark.  It's broken windows and rotten wooden frames show that it has been neglected for many years.  A shiver shoots unpleasantly down my spine as I touch the cold and crumbling walls. I peer through the windows at the front of the house to see whether there is anyone that would notice me sneaking in.  It's all clear so I slowly press down the handle and push it open just enough to fit myself through.  I slip into the house and lightly push the door until I hear it click shut.  I let out a sigh and lean against the door looking around me.  This house is old, murky and dirty, there is a bad vibe creeping around it.  I carefully step forward tapping the floorboards checking for any creaks that could give me away.  I sniff as a harsh smell hits my nose, I hold my hand up trying to mask it.  I peer into the first room, there is nothing except a few boxes of papers in the middle of the room.  I move onto the next room and nearly bump straight into a man.  I jump back and lean against the wall, I hold my breath afraid of him hearing me.  He steps out and looks around, his eyes are filled with anger, his forehead wrinkled by years of frowning and his mouth turned up into a permanent scowl.  I watch him carefully as he steps back into the room, I let out my held breath.  This is going to be a lot harder than I thought, stick to the agenda Taylor.  Find Rachael and then find a way to let the others in!  I look around and notice a dimly lit hallway, I slowly tiptoe down it looking around me cautiously.  Hanging on the walls are faded, dusty pictures of families and people who lived in this city.  I peer at them as I walk down the hallway, I stop in front of one and breathe in a shocked breath.  Staring back at me is Maddie and Rachael, they are standing next to Lea and another Man, is that Kaleb?  I reach out to touch it but hear a noise just a bit in front of me, I look around trying to find somewhere to hide.  I know they can't see me but they can probably sense my presence.  I look around frantically trying to find somewhere.

"In here."  A voice whispers in my ear I jump back and hold my mouth to prevent my scream from escaping.  I look at where the voice came from and see a little hidden door propped open, I pull on the door and quickly jump in closing it behind me.  I look around the hidden room and relax slightly.  It is more like a cupboard than a room, there is enough room for just one more person and that would still be a bit too much.  I try to breathe as quietly as I can and press my ear up against the door listening.

"The girl is growing impatient my Lady."  A man says right outside of the door, I lightly press myself up against it.

"That little traitor with have to wait won't she? The only way she is ever going to get out of here is if those filthy witches come and rescue her.  Let's face it, they will never get through the darkness so she's mine now, all mine." Veronica lets out a wicked laugh that makes me want to barge out of here and take her down.  I smirk as she has no idea that we did in fact get though the darkness and that I am inches away from her.  "I think I shall go and give her a little visit."  I hear footsteps heading back the way they came, I want to follow her, I need to follow her but what if the other man is still there.

"It's all clear to go, go now!"  That voice whispers into my ear again making me jump up, I hit my head.

"Who the hell are you? Where are you?" I look around but don't see anybody.

"That doesn't matter just go, now!"  The voice hisses loudly, I shove the door open and quickly walk after Veronica.  I turn the corner and see that there are two ways to go, left or right, where do I go?
