Chapter Fifteen
Heather
I leap into the air and laugh to myself as Elsie screams, does this girl have no sense of adventure? I know what you're thinking, I just called her Elsie. I know that's her name really, I just find it to be a mouthful so prefer Ellie. I close my eyes as that familiar warmth shivers down my body, the light so clear in my mind. I open my eyes and smile at my colourful wings that are sprouting from my shoulder blades. I glide beneath Elsie, allowing her to rest onto my back. She isn't screaming anymore. As I look down, I see the infected have made it outside but are unable to breach the exterior walls. I should probably check to see if Elsie is ok.
"How are you doing back there Ellie?" I say peering back at her, I stifle a laugh as her hands grip tighter onto my wings. "That bad huh?" I face forward again and glide round in a circle to head back to the building. I will never get sick of the wind rustling through my feathers, it makes my body tingle pleasantly. "So what's the plan Stan?" I ask Elsie, hoping she will answer me at some point.
"Are you crazy?!" She shouts angrily. "We could have died! I had no idea you could fly, it would have been great to know that before you pulled me off a building!" She sighs making me chuckle.
"I see your point but it wouldn't have been nearly as fun now would it?" Elsie stays quiet. "Is that your car down there?" I ask pointing to a car parked just outside of the gates.
"Yes, it is." She replies bluntly.
"Okie dokie, I'll drop us off down there. Hold on tight now." I feel Elsie grip onto me tighter. I pick a good spot to land and gently glide down until my feet touch the ground. Elsie is still clinging to my back with her legs wrapped around my waist. "You can put your feet down now." I say quietly, I feel her legs loosen and slide down to the ground. She stands there shaking slightly, I pull her into a hug rustling her hair. I allow my wings to hang down at my sides. She pushes back and I watch her eyes take me in. "I'm amazing aren't I?" I rest my foot on her car wheel and do my best model pose. Her eyebrows lift with surprise and a smile cracks onto her face. She puts her hands onto her hips shaking her head with disbelief.
"What was that? What just happened?" She asks gesturing to the sky. She walks towards me reaching out to touch one of my wings. "Are they attached?" She tugs it slightly.
"Ouch, yes they're attached." I say shrugging so my feathers rustle.
"What are you?" She says still staring at my multicoloured wings.
"I'm a witch." I say with a proud smirk on my face, she stops still and looks at me.
"A witch? I've not met a witch that can fly, I mean the others have powers but not one like yours." She smiles at me.
"There aren't many of us, I only know of me, my cousin Edwin and my great uncle Christian." I shrug my shoulders and two of my feathers fall off. I watch them elegantly glide to the floor and stomp my foot in irritation. I look up at a very confused and concerned Elsie.
