A Little Soon

Lindsey had mostly recovered from his ordeal, the police didn't get involved with his accident due to the fact no body else was injured, this pleasing him greatly. He was at Stevie's now more than his own house he was taking the role as an expecting father wonderfully, helping decorate the house to leave Stevie to rest, and buying little things for the baby when he saw them

"Steph?"

"Hmm?"

"Why are you staring at me?"

"I'm not" she looked sheepishly away

"Yes you are" Lindsey walked over to the chair she was sitting in and leaned over, placing both his hands on each arm rest

"I'm just in love with you that's all, I almost lost you Linds, It made me realise how special you are to me" her eyes filled up and Lindsey crouched down taking her face in his hand

"Baby don't cry it's okay, I'm here!"

"But you almost weren't Lindsey and it's my fault" she cried harder now

"Hey, hey Shh...I'm here, look feel me around you" he pulled her gently up and sat in the chair himself, pulling her again this time to sit on his lap whilst she cried into his chest

"Please don't leave me"

"Steph, where is this coming from honey?"

"I just...I...I can't survive without you" she got out through Sobs

"I thought that was Don five minuets ago" he laughed trying to make a joke but she looked at him seriously

"No, don't ever compare yourself to him, I spend our relationship trying to make him into you! I was going to end it with him but then I found out i was pregnant" Lindsey didn't know she was going to spill her heart

"What you mean that wasn't planned?"

"Of course not, I told you many years ago I didn't want children with anyone else, he came home one night drunk, I was asleep, he must have started whilst I was sleeping like you used to, I reciprocated but by the time I realised he wasn't wearing protection it was all over"

"Wow" Lindsey was gobsmacked

"So yeah I now have a baby and no Don"

"But you now have a baby and me" Stevie smiled at him, giving him a gentle kiss

"Your right I do! And that is much better!"

"What do you think about getting married?" Lindsey said completely out of the blue

"What?"

"I said what do you think about getting married?" His smiled dropped when he saw Stevie's face

"Don't you think it's a little bit soon?"

"Not really, you said you couldn't survive without me..."

"It doesn't mean I want to marry you...that sounded harsher that it was meant to I'm sorry" Lindsey moved Stevie off his lap and stood up

"You confuse me, you tell me that you can't live without me, tell me how your happy that you have me and the baby, then you say you don't want to marry me?"

"Linds marriage is a big step"

"So is having a baby and your doing that"

"Lindsey just because I don't want to get married doesn't mean I don't want to be with you"

"I just wanted to be a family Steph, you, me, the baby, I know I would love it"

"Truthfully Lindsey I'm thinking that if we don't work it's easier for us both to walk away, a divorce is a messy and tricky affair"

"You really havnt got any faith in me at all have you..." Lindsey said sadly and walked out the room, going to sit out on the patio in the back yard

A short time later Stevie joined him outside, sitting next to him and dangling her feet into the pool

"Lindsey I'm sorry, I'm just scared that we won't work or that you'll find someone else"

"Why would I? I'm in love with you and I'm getting the chance to be a father, that's the greatest gift ever"

"You mean it?"

"You know I do" he looked into her eyes and she smiled

"Then I'll marry you...on one condition"

"Name it!"

"You propose to me properly"

"Deal" he brought her in and kissed her before speaking again

"I have another name I like"

"I thought Lizzie was decided?"

"I don't know, Lizzie just doesn't feel right to me anymore. I really like Layla, it's differnt"

"Linds I love that name! Let's make a definite decision on Layla!"

"It's made!"

I'd like to apologise for the long delay, I was on Jury Service for two weeks so it took up all my time! But I'm back now, this is only a short one just so I can get it moving a little, so I hope it wasn't terrible! Xo
