"Stephanie, what's wrong?" Lindsey asked rushing to her, fighting tears himself

"I don't know, it just hurts" Stevie placed her hand under her dress and pressed it to her thigh, pulling her hand away she saw her finger tips glistening crimson

"I'm taking you to the hospital" he picked her up, bridal style and raced to the car, putting her in the front of the car, getting in and driving off to the hospital

"Linds...am I...am I losing her?" She said through tears

"No baby, she'll be okay" he pressed his hand to her stomach, almost trying to convince himself

"Promise me?" Silence

"Lindsey promise me?" He really didn't want to because even he wasn't sure, after a second he spoke

"I promise" the rest of the way was spent crying, arriving at the hospital they walked in and spoke to the lady at the front to desk

"Hi, my girlfriend is pregnant and experiencing bad stomach pains"

"Right okay, go straight on down the corridor third door on the left, I'll send a Dr down straight away!"

Lindsey thanked the woman and walked Stevie down the hall, they sat in the room and Lindsey just held her for a few minuets, she needed him right now, she was scared she would lose her little girl before she even got to meet her. Not to much later the Dr walked in, greeting them

"I understand your experiencing pains in your stomach?"

"Yes, they are incredibly painful, is there something wrong with my baby?"

"I'll set up an ultrasound and we can take a look, I take it you're dad?" He looked at Lindsey

"I am indeed, please tell us she'll be okay!"

"Ms Nicks have you seen any signs of blood whilst the pains have been there?"

"Yes, a small amount"

"Okay well obviosly thats not a great sign. Right let's see what's going on, if you lay back for me I'll just put some of this gel on, it will be cold so brace yourself" he squirted the gel on, causing Stevie to flinch, after a couple of minuets which felt like hours a steady heartbeat filled the room

"There she is" he pointed to the screen where she saw the baby that was growing inside of her

"So she's okay?" Lindsey asked

"From the sound of the heartbeat and the fact I can see her moving around she's just fine, I'd say by her size your about five and half months is that right?"

"Yeah that's right" she smiled at Lindsey "So why the pain? And blood?" She asked

"Did it feel like a stabbing pain that almost felt like it contracted?"

"Yes that's it!"

"Well the contraction pain is Braxton Hicks, but looking here at the ultrasound" he pointed to a small clear gap at the top of the screen "the placenta has torn away from the womb a small amount

"What's does that mean?" Stevie asked worried

"Well Braxton Hicks is your body's way of preparing for labour but it actually feels like your starting your contractions, alot of women think they are going into labour when in fact it's just Braxton Hicks, it's nothing to worry about at all. Are you under a lot of stress recently?"

"You could say that yes" she answered

"That is a large factor then, and also why it's come early compared to most, i'm going to say because its that early is why the placenta has torn, it is not as strong as it would be at say seven or eight months"

"Will she be okay?"

"She will be just fine, you just have to take it easy, try to cut the stress out, from what I can see the tear is small so it shouldn't rip anymore, but if you do experience anymore pain or blood you have to come back immediately alright?" Stevie nodded

"Thank you so much, I was so worried"

"Your welcome I'm glad you came instead of leaving it, alot of women won't come in because they have the fear I'll tell them that their baby no longer has a heartbeat" lindseys hand automatically flew to Stevie's stomach, him not even imagining the pain they would feel if that were the case today

Leaving the hospital Lindsey wrapped his arm around Stevie's shoulders as they walked to the car

"Thank you!" She said looking up at him

"For what?"

"For keeping your promise that she was okay!"

"Your her mother aren't you? You don't give up easily, I don't think squirt will either" They laughed and got back into the car, driving home, they refused to discuss what happened at the restaurant earlier, they would talk about it when they both weren't as mad

Once they returned home they went straight upstairs to bed, getting into their night clothes and slipping under the covers, Stevie lay with her head on Lindsey's chest, making small circles whilst his fingers ran through her hair

"I'm so glad she's okay, I couldn't survive losing her"

"I know baby, it would kill me" Lindsey returned, it was all quiet until Stevie gasped

"What?" Lindsey shot up, Stevie said nothing, just taking his hand and placing it on the side of her stomach, not more than four seconds later the baby kicked his hand, a smile plastered to his face

"Hey baby!" Lindsey leaned down to speak to the baby inside his girlfriend

"She just wanted some attention I think!" He said to Stevie

"Oh she's most definetly your daughter then!"

"Hey!" Lindsey nudged her and pulled her down into the position they were in before, they both drifted off quickly knowing that their little girl was going to be just fine
