Chapter Two

Sagestar let out a groan as he arched his back into a stretch. He looked over at Jess, who was sitting alone and grooming herself.

"Hey Jess." Sagestar meowed, walking over to speak with her.

"Yes, Sagestar?" She asked.

"How would you like to recieve your warrior name?" He asked.

"What's a warrior name?" She asked, bringing her voice down so the others couldn't hear.

Sagestar laughed at the she-cat's question.

"A warrior is an adult cat in a Clan." He meowed.

"But can't I just be named Jess?" She asked. Sagestar opened his jaws to reply, but he was interrupted by Graypool.

"You can't have a paw in both worlds, Jess. You either become a warrior, or leave this place." The grumpy she-cat said.

Jess' eyes widened when Graypool said that.

"I.. I see. I'd like to get a warrior name as soon as possible, then." She meowed, looking back at Sagestar.

"That's great, Jess! Let's go give you a warrior name then." Jess nodded as Sagestar walked her over to the tree, and Sagestar climbed it, standing on a low, but sturdy branch.

"Jess. So far, you have proven to be a loving cat. You love the clan; and help when you can. You also love the cats here." There was a brief moment of silence.

"So, In the name of StarClan, I name you Doeheart. May you continue to help the clan with love just as you have been." Sagestar meowed, smiling down at Doeheart.

"Doeheart, Doeheart!" Graypool and Sweetwing chanted.

Suddenly, a loud yowl came from the tunnel.

"I'm back!! Were back!" Sagestar's heart sped up as he heard Songbird. He lept out of the tree and raced forward, right as he was about to nuzzle her, as a way to welcome her back, he saw Dovefrost, a she-cat in which he saw earlier. He saw another she-cat, and two toms.

"Who are they?" Sagestar asked.

"This is Dovefrost, my sister. These two are Spiderfang and Blazeclaw." Songbird meowed.

"And of course, we can't forget little Shyfoot." Songbird explained with a soft smile. Sagestar looked at them, then at Songbird. He wanted to speak but no words came out. She seemed.. Different. Was she stronger after her three day journey? No. She didn't seem that kind of different. Songbird motioned her tail, and the cats that had herbs stored in their jaws followed. Sagestar quietly followed behind, curiousity controlling him. He stayed a bit above the den and listened.

"We've brought herbs!" Songbird's happy cheery voice meowed.

"There's so many! And you've brought new cats. Well done, Songbird." Graypool paused, then continued.

"You all may get settled above in the dens." Graypool meowed. The four cats walked out of the den, leaving Songbird and Graypool alone.

"Graypool, I need to speak with you.." Songbird's voice was worried. Sagestar continued to listen in.

"What is it?" The old voice cracked.

"I'm.. I'm expecting kits." Songbird meowed. Sagestar eyes widened as he bit his tongue to prevent a hiss.

"Whose are they? And it did happen before you were in training, correct?" Graypool asked.

"Yes, they were before my medicine cat training.. However.. They're Sagestar's.." Graypool nodded.

"I see. Sagestar can't know about this. Blazeclaw, that's his name, right? We will ask him to help you. He will father your kits. Go get him." Songbird nodded, as she emerged, Sagestar sped away.

"She's having kits..! My kits...!"

Once he caught his breath, he turned to see Songbird slowly walking into the den. He sped beside it, and stood next to the giant root den. He perked his ears to listen.

"Blazeclaw, may I talk to you?" Songbird's soft voice said.

"Sure, what is it?" Blazeclaw said. Spiderfang, Shyfoot and Dovefrost emerged.

"They must be going hunting. What convenient timing for you, Songbird." Sagestar thought.

"Well.. I'm having kits, but I'm a medicine cat. I know this is a lot to ask, but could you father them..?" Songbird's sweet, quiet voice asked.

"Your pregnant?" Blazeclaw asked. Sagestar peered his head around the giant root, looking at the two cats. He saw Blazeclaw shake his head.

"Nevermind that. I'll help, but I want the details of who the father is." Blazeclaw asked.

"Yes.. I almost forgot that you are a very informed tom cat. You must not tell any cat, okay? Sagestar is the father of my kits. But I want you to act as the father." Songbird said.

"Could you do that?"

"Yes, I can." Blazeclaw said. He sat down.

"When are your kits due?" Blazeclaw asked.

"Three moons."
