The flight to California was short and sweet thanks to the three bourbons and tequila shots. I wouldn’t usually do that but today was an exception. I quickly collected my bags from the luggage area and headed towards the exit.  Just as the automatic doors opened to the waiting lounge I spotted Tyler sitting on a couch, Iphone in hand most likely playing some game to kill time after my flight was delayed for half and hour.

“Ty” I smile at him as I walk closer, rolling my luggage behind me.

He looks up, spots me and stands immediately.

“Jaime, how you been sis?” he says pulling me into a huge bear hug. “Woah you must have had fun on the plane” he comments as he pulls away with a huge grin on his face, obviously inhaling the smell of alcohol.

“Yeah you could say that” I giggle as he grabs my luggage and we make our way out to the car.

“So how’s uncle Dan? When I got off the phone with him last night he seemed pretty giddy” Ty questions as he speeds down the freeway to his house, soon to be mine too.

I can’t help but laugh a little at my uncle, “That would be because of his new girlfriend Rose. He’s so in love with her it’s hilarious to watch. He’s like a lost puppy when she’s not around.”

“Bout time” my brother almost snorts. “How about you? Have you…..” he begins to say but I zone out when I realise we are coming up to the all too familiar street.

Just as we pass the sign ‘Delton Ave’ I get a quick glimpse down the street and think I see the same little boy standing lost in the middle of the road.

Flashback

-

“Come here bitch!” I can hear the man screaming next door again. He always screams at night time when I’m trying to go to sleep so sometimes daddy puts on soft music for me to listen to but I can still hear all the loud noises. He’s a bad man that man. One time he shouted at my daddy too.

“And where’s that little shit?! I know he took it!” I hear the bad man shouting again.

I hear the next door neighbour’s back door slowly squeak open so I quickly sit up and lookout the window just to see a little shadow running into the bushes at the back where our two lawns meet.

I put on my pink princess dressing gown and my favourite pink boots. I grab daisy and moomoo because I know the boy likes moomoo when he’s sad.

I open my bedroom window and quietly climb out onto the deck so mummy and daddy won’t wake up.

I run to the small bushes that we made into a cave last time. It’s our secret hiding place and nobody knows where it is because we don’t tell anybody.

I crawl into the small bush cave and he’s turned the other way. The boy is crying so I go closer and try to give him moo moo. He turns around and sniffles with his big green eyes that are very very sad. I don’t like to see him sad. He’s only small like me and daddy always says that I am a special princess so that means that he’s a special prince and princes and princesses are supposed to be happy.

“You can have moo moo harry” I say trying to give him my moo moo teddy again.

He sniffles more then takes moo moo and cuddles her with one arm and wipes his eyes with the back of the other.

“It’s OK Harry. Me and moo moo will look after you.” I tell him and pat his hand.

He sniffles for a little bit longer and we can hear the bad man yelling. “He won’t find us out here” I say to harry and we lie down to go sleep like last time and wait for the bad man to stop shouting.

-

“Jamie?..Jamie” I can hear Ty trying to zone me out of my little memory.

“Yeah.” I quickly turn back to him trying to act as calm as possible.

“You OK?”

“Yeah I’m fine” I lie.

“Look I know it’s been a long time since you’ve been here and we don’t have the best memories here seeing as mom and dad….” He begins to trail off, “just trust me, you’re going to love it here. The house is awesome and I know you’re going to love University. I sure do!” he smiles.

“Because of the whole educational experience or because of the parties?” I tease knowing his answer.

“Parties obviously” he shrugs as he pulls into what I assume is our house. He was right it is beautiful.

Although this is all exciting I can’t help but wonder what happened to the boy with the sad green eyes.

“Jamie you coming with me today?!” Ty yells from down stairs.

“Well seeing as I don’t have a car yet nor do I know how to get there I think so!” I shout back sarcastically, tying my hair up.

“True” is all I hear him say to himself.

I quickly throw a long cardi on and head down stairs.

“Aww look at you my little university sister” he says squeezing my cheek as I walk past him to put my shoes on.

“Ew” I laugh at him.

“Ill drop you at your block before I go to mine. I’m on the other side of campus but I have a couple of classes down here so I’ll txt you later” he says as I step out of the car.

“OK see ya” I say and shut the car door.

I spend at least 20 minutes walking around the same block trying to find my class but give up and head to the administrative office. This place is confusing.

“Hi, I’m Jamie…” I begin to explain to the lady where I’m supposed to be and she gives me a map with simple directions. “Thanks” I say turning away looking down at my map.

I make my way past the block I was wondering around before and go to turn down a small pathway between two huge brick buildings. Just as I turn I almost bump into a couple making out. She’s up against the wall, his hands are firmly wrapped around her waist and they're both breathing heavily.

“Oh god sorry!” I say embarrassed as they turn to look at me after interrupting them.

I look at the brunette girl who would be absolutely stunning if she didn’t have such a scowl on her face, obviously because I ruined their moment. Then the boy with several tattoos layered down his left arm, wearing a dark grey beanie turns to look at me. His familiar green eyes bore into mine and I almost let out a gasp.

“Harry?” I whisper before I can stop myself. It can’t be. He looks like he could be Harry but I’m not sure. His dark brown hair is messily shaping his face from out of the beanie and he has a very sharp jaw line. He seems similar but his harsh tattoos and lip piercing deceive me. By the look of utter disgust on his face I know it can’t be the same innocent boy I left nearly 10 years ago. This boy seems darker.

“Sorry” I quickly shake my head of the small pure boy entering my thoughts, screaming at me to come back. I quickly walk past the couple with my head down.

Just as I begin to reach the end of the small path I hear the brunette begin to say “I’ve never seen her before. How does she know your…”
