Chapter Ten: Christian

"Do you know what it is like,

To lie in bed awake,

With thoughts to haunt

you every night,

Of all your past mistakes.

Knowing sleep will set it right-

If you were not to wake."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes." I answer. It's the morning before my first day in a public school. Kol had been worrying incessantly. His eyes even know are filled with wariness.

"You only want two of us with you?" He asks, verifying. I had told him this the day the school accepted it. They said two would be fine. I could have probably gotten them to agree for four. It feels like too much to ask.

"I don't want to put four of you through that everyday." He rolls his eyes at me.

"We will switch places at lunch. We will bring food from home. You know how Killian is." Kol motions dramatically. A warm buzz takes place in my core. Little comments like that make me so happy. I do know how Killian is. Untrusting and very wary of... well everything. The guys have been moving stuff in at all hours and I've adapted to falling asleep to noise. Kaden discovered a pool out back and has practically spent every second since begging me to swim with him. I haven't had time yet.

Kelly has been keeping me busy. That doesn't mean I've even seen her since she left me alone with my mother. I went back and gave her the money silently. $50,000 dollars. In all. I hadn't said a word to the guys when I got home. I didn't have to. They knew. They always know everything.

"Your phone." Keith holds out the device in question. I roll my eyes. I had long given up on knowing how he always seemed to get ahold of it. I have been filling out paperwork. It's mostly contracts. Keith stays in the living room with me when I do. Reading a book. Turns out he likes reading. Mostly nonfiction and historical drama. I caught him with a horror novel once.

"Thanks." I smile and grasp it. He raises a brow quietly. His face doesn't hold the same hollowness from before but his blue eyes still carry that haunted look. We don't talk a lot but we exchange a sort of weird series of looks right before bed. Like a mini conversation. He gives me a raised brow, I mimic him with two raised brows. He smirks at my lack of one eyebrow raise-ness, I pout. Then he tilts his head in a curious look, I smile and motion to my room. He nods once and leaves, I check out his butt as he walks away.

It's routine.

"You'll be with me until lunch?" I ask. My eyebrows furrow and I shoot him a look. One full of genuine curiosity.

"Yes. As will Kaden." He nods. I grin at him. Wanting to laugh, but not allowing myself. If he comes, Kaden comes. In the few days I've noticed a sort of pairing. Kol and Kaden got along wonderfully. But there was a tension there. I had watched their movements. Killian and Kol sort of moved together. If Killian left to his room, unless Kol was with me he left too. Keith and Kaden weren't that close, but they did tend to stay a bit closer together if Killian and Kol are in the room. Kol smirks at me. From the doorway of the living room. He is barefoot and shirtless. By now I've memorized his abs. He leaves with Killian every day in the early morning. How do I know this? Killian has become my...

Cuddle Buddy

He sleeps in my room every night. I don't really question him on it. He always crawls into bed and holds me close until he falls asleep.
