"I need to go to the store," I said, standing at the wall before entering the living room.
"Tell me what you need I'll get it," he said.
"Um I'd rather go on my own," I said. He placed his hand on his chin. "You just insist..."
"Harry do not fucking start please. I just need a couple of things." He removed his hand from his chin and licked his lips.
"They're personal items, so, do you guys have a CVS or something here?"
"We need to get you on birth control."
"For what?!"
"Mia, if you're going to be staying here and getting fucked by me, you're gonna need it."
"Okay, Harry, with or without birth control I'm going to have my period. So let me go to the store and get what I need to get." He stood up and walked towards me and my breathing suddenly hitched. He looked down at me and reached above my head and he moved closer to my face. He leaned in more and after looking between my eyes and my lips, his lips near mine, he said, "Let's go." He moved his hands away and with the movement of his hands came the jingling of his keys and he smirked at me.
We got in the car and I stared out the window as he drove to a nearby CVS. My phone buzzed. "Alex: MMS". I bit my lip and glanced at Harry who was staring straight ahead.
Alex: Hey cutie. Saw this and I thought of you. I miss you ;(
Attached to the message was a photo of him and I, a wide smile plastered across my face, his arm wrapped around my shoulder. My mind was immediately flooded with memories, but they were interrupted when Harry said, "Who's that?"
"Um, it's no one," I said, putting my hair behind my ear. Harry looked between me and the road.
"You're lying. Who is it."
"Why do you care?"
"Mia, now is not-"
"Oh for God's sake Harry shut up!" After the words slipped out of my mouth I realized that I had made a grave mistake. "No, I'm sorry I didn't mean it I just-"
"Quiet. I don't want to hear you until we get home."
As we pulled into the CVS parking lot, my heart pounded.
"Here, you're going to need this," he said, his credit card between his index and middle finger. He made no eye contact with me.
"Harry, I have my ow-"
"No words." He slowly turned his head to look at me. "I mean that."
I grabbed the card and briskly walked in. I went straight to the aisle that carried the tampons and picked up a couple of boxes. Later I found myself lingering to the snack aisle, searching out all of the chocolate I could find, but by the end I just had two boxes of tampons and a bag of fun sized Snickers.
"Um, excuse me," I began to the woman at the cash register, "how could I ...well where could I get the birth control pills at? Is there a certain pharmacy?" She began explaining the process and where to go and who to speak to.
"I recommend Dr. John Pulaski," she said, giving me my receipt. "He's very good," she said giving me a bright smile.
"Okay, thanks, you have a great day," I said leaving out. Polite people always made my day. However, as soon as I left out of the store, a feeling of anxiety ran over me again. Harry's eyes observed me intently as I got closer to the car.
