To think I had just made sense of my life.

Yesterday, as I'm sure you remember, Diary, I decided to leave this romance thing to Rouge, assuming she'd tell me if she had feelings for me. That probably would have worked fine, but now Rouge can't even get near me safely. Why, you ask? Well, it's a long story, so I hope you're in a listening mood.

My day started normally, with waking up and breakfast going as usual. I was about to zoom off to work with Eclipse (he's helping G.U.N. by providing his blood and knowledge to the scientists there in return for getting let off the hook for his previous actions by the Commander) when I felt a large disturbance in the nearby Chaos Energy around me. Something like Chaos Control, but different at the same time. I stopped and glanced around, and was about to continue on with a confused Eclipse when a familiar purple cat landed on top of me. I face-planted in the dirt, and almost accidentally stabbed my feline friend in the side before I remembered not to move my head around (my quills are dangerously sharp). Once she realized what she had landed on, she quickly jumped off of me. Once I picked myself up, I turned to her.

"Blaze?" I was beyond surprised to see her again, as she and I go back a bit. I'll describe our history later, but in the meantime I need to finish telling you about my reunion with her. She was similarly shocked by me, and her tone of voice was incredulous once she found her tongue.

"Shadow?!" Her amber eyes locked on mine, and she got a hold of me before I could even react. As in, grabbed me by my shoulders and excitedly shaked me back and forth as she confirmed it was actually me. Heh, fun right? Anyways, once I sputtered out enough chatter-toothed words to communicate my discomfort with this...particular move, Blaze let go of my shoulders and contented herself with a handshake. Why was she so excited to see me, you ask? I guess I'm obliged to explain, but I think I'll leave the explanation to our conversation. Now, I believe Blaze and I were in the middle of a handshake...

"Shadow! I can't believe it! What are the odds I'd run into you like this?" Blaze chattered, acting like meeting me was the most pleasant surprise she'd had in a month. I, of course, tried to move past her uncharacteristically friendly greeting.

"Not high, whatever they are," I smirked, referring to the odds of meeting Blaze. "It's nice seeing you again, if not in this situation." Blaze smiled, something I didn't expect from the serious and curt princess (yes, princess. I'll explain later).

"Still wearing that smirk, are you? I hate to say it, but it does suit you. And I agree that this isn't the best time or place for a reunion. Not with so much at stake, that is..." Blaze trailed off, her smile falling and being replaced with a grim determination. I blinked at her, and concern threatened to overtake my facial expression. I was worried about her, not knowing what she meant by that. I'm sure you would have been concerned if you had been in my place, Diary, seeing a friend with a foreboding expression after just having run into them again. Not a good feeling, I assure you, to experience that.

"What do you mean?" I asked, my curiousity too burning to even consider the possible options first. Blaze sighed, and held my gaze in a way very few people (Sonic and the Commander included) manage to do.

"I've found all but one of the Sol Emeralds, and I can't seem to find the seventh anywhere on my world. So, I came here to look for it. I have more time than before because the powers of the others help to balance my world, but I need to find the last Emerald before long. I have maybe three months of leeway before I need to panic, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't work on finding it now." I nodded after hearing this explanation; I'd learned about four months before how important the Sol Emeralds were to her world (another long story). At this point, I was reminded of the time by a quick glance at my watch, and I gritted my teeth when I realized I was almost late for work.
