We had gotten permission from the police department to take Daniel home. I offered to have him come to my house, but he refused. Of course I wouldn't take no for an answer and made him come to my house.
Nicole drove Daniel and I to his house, where he showered and changed. When I arrived home, she told me I needed to get my foot checked. I told her I wanted to stay with Daniel, but she forced me. Thankfully Daniel came along, so I wasn't stuck alone to explain everything.
Ever so helpfully Daniel helped me in to the emergency clinic. He tried to go to the screening room but they told him to wait since he wasn't family. I know it killed him, but I can't do much. My foot was extremely painful but the painkillers helped. The doctor put me in a boot and gave me crutches, along with a prescription for painkillers.
Out in the waiting room Daniel paced, chewing on his nails. My noisy crutches got his attention and when he saw me he looked relieved. As fast as I could I went over to him to hug him. Gently he put his arms around me. I heard Nicole awe but I ignored it. By my side, Daniel walked. At the car he opened the door and helped me in.
The car ride home was silent, but a good silent. At my house Daniel and I retreated to my room. Closing my door I turned around to Daniel. "Joey I wanted to apologize for everything I've done. I feel like a huge jerk and I'm sorry. Can... can you forgive me?"
I limped over to Daniel and put my hands on his cheeks, kissing him. The kiss was short but passionate. "I think I can." I said. Leaning in, I kissed him again. Daniel put his hand at the back of my neck, the other on my waist. We pulled away, breathless from the kiss.
Laughing, we touched foreheads. "So... what does this mean?" I asked. Daniel was silent for a second, then he perked up. "You have an idea, don't you?" Nodding, he grinned. This must be something big.
Daniel got on one knee (there was no ring) and said, "Joey Graceffa, will you be my boyfriend?"
"Yes." I said enthusiastically. Standing up Daniel hugged me. "You're such a dork." He laughed and squeezed me. This is what I've wanted for so long and now I have it, and I won't lose it. We walked over to the bed where we laid there, staring at each other. I closed my eyes, enjoying the moment. It was so calming I dosed off.

While we were laying on Joey's bed, he fell asleep. I ran and a hand through his hair before getting up and covering him with a blanket. He looked so comfy I wanted that, so I got on the bed next to him. In that silence, I too fell asleep.
The next day Joey's sister Nicole woke us up. She had a smile on her face and winked at me when she left. I retrieved Joey's crutches and helped him down to the kitchen. There in the kitchen was his family, along with his mom. His mom smiled sadly at him but said nothing. Joey glanced at her but otherwise ignored her. I'm not sure what happened between them, and I won't ask.
At the sight of food my stomach rumbled and I realized how hungry I was. We sat at the table and filled our plates. Nicole tried to start up conversation, but it was silent. Mainly because Joey and I were stuffing our faces. The food tasted amazing. Better than what my mom can make.
Speaking of my mom, I wonder dad and her are back. My phone buzzed in my pocket and it was from my mom. Speak of the Devil. It simply said, we are home. Nothing else. Not 'come home to see us, we missed you!' or a simple sign of of affection. I decided to ignore her text.
Joey must have seen my phone because he put a hand on my knee and smiled sadly. We finished our food and decided to go in the backyard and talk. "Daniel, you really need to go see your parents." Joey said.
"I don't want to. They don't care about me." I said, crossing my arms. My parents don't care, so why should I go back? All I'll be is another 'thing' that costs money. They've never really cared. I'm bought stuff, but they never show affection.
"They're your parents Daniel. They care." Joey said, putting a hand on my arm. "And if they don't, then shame on them." I let what he said process. Maybe I should go see them. It wouldn't hurt anything.
Sighing I said, "Okay. I'll go." Joey smiled at me, squeezing my knee. "Let's go." I got up, helping Joey out to the cars. We borrowed his sisters car, promising not to do anything to it. Driving along the familiar streets, I became more and more nervous. I turned up the radio to calm me but it wasn't working.
I was so tense I had a white-knuckle grip on the steering wheel. Joey put a hand on my thigh. "Don't be nervous, I'm here." he said. With his presence here I felt a little calmer. The houses became larger and grander as we got closer to my house. I'm not sure why I'm nervous, they're my parents.

My parent's car was in the driveway, but mine wasn't. I pulled in to the driveway, stopping. Nervously I picked at my nails. "You're stalling." Joey said. "Just go up."
"I know, but what will they say? Will they be happy?" I asked, running a hand through my hair. My heart was beating fast and I could feel sweat forming.
"I'll go with you." Joey said. Happy that he'll go with me, I almost ran to the door but slowed for him. Together we stood at the door, hands intertwined. I pressed the doorbell and waited. For a while no one answered. I almost left but it opened and my mom answered.
"Daniel, there you are. It's nice to see you-" my mom started but stopped, looking down at our hands. Her eyes widened. Uh-oh, something isn't right. "What are you doing?"
I paused for a second before saying, "We're holding hands."
"Boys don't hold other boys hands." she said.
"But we do. We're dating." Joey said. My mom looked angry and said,
"I will not have a homosexual in my house. Leave."
