Chapter 3 Facing What You Hate

"Your father is coming to visit tonight." My mom says.

My eyes widen slightly, not fully registering what she said. "W-what?"

"He said he missed you and wanted to visit. He said he was sorry honey."

"Sorry..." I mutter. "He'll never be sorry!" I scream.

"Shhh, Daniel. Calm down. It's just a visit. He probably won't be here for more than an hour." She says, a look in her eyes that I have never seen before.

"That's too long! I don't ever want to see his face! I hate him!" I scream.

"Daniel! He's your father!"

"That doesn't matter!" I yell. Before I can add on, someone interrupts.

"Um, is everything alright?" Chelsea asks.

My mom smiles. "Yes sweetie. I don't want to be rude, but can you and Luke go home? We have someone... special coming over." I snort at the word 'special'.

Chelsea nods slowly, looking over at me before heading back up the stairs.

My mom laughs. "Her hair is still as crazy as ever."

"Don't change the subject." I growl.

"What do you want me to say Daniel? He deserves to see you."

"Well when he got half of the custody, I didn't go over. He should have gotten the message." I say.

She opens her mouth to say something, most likely defending that man who calls himself a 'father', but Chelsea, Luke, and Ethan walk down the stairs.

"Sorry if we intruded on something Mrs. Davis." Luke says.

"Oh, no, it's ok. I'm sorry you guys couldn't hang out." She says, biting her lip.

"We better get going." Chelsea says. "Bye Daniel. See you tomorrow." She smiles. "Bye Mrs. Davis." Luke waves at me. I barely acknowledge it only lifting my hand up, almost fleetingly. Chelsea and Luke look at each other, walking out the door and to Ethan's car.

"Hello." Ethan says.

"Hi, I don't think I've seen you before." My mom says.

"My name's Ethan Wright. I just moved here recently." Ethan says, holding out his hand. She takes it gratefully, giving it a couple pumps.

"Well, it's very nice to meet you." She looks Ethan up and down. "Well, boys these days are becoming quite good- looking."

Ethan laughs. "Well, thanks." He looks past her at me. A look of concern passes over Ethan's face and a little bit of something else. He blinks looking back at my mom. "I better get going. I'm Chelsea and Luke's ride."

"Oh, okay. Daniel will see you at school tomorrow." She says.

Ethan nods, glancing at me before walking out the door, closing it behind him.

Mrs. Davis sighs. "You barely even said bye..."

"What time is he even coming over?" I ask, changing the subject.

She looks up at the clock. "Well, it's 3:27 right now, so maybe five minutes."

I glare at her. "You should have told me earlier so that I could have got the hell out of here."

"Daniel! Don't say that!" She exclaims. I wasn't sure if it was because of my choice of words or that I just said something bad about my father. It didn't really matter.
