"Negotiate?" she asked, her confusion evident.
"Yes," I calmly replied.
Simultaneously, while engrossed in a conversation, an elegantly dressed woman, sporting a pair of sleek glasses, gracefully made her entrance into my office. Interrupting the ongoing discussion, she politely inquired...
"Mr. Ferguson, I must confess that I am utterly clueless about what is happening here. However, if Kyle is being held against his will..." the human hesitated, concern etched on her face."I will have no choice but to inform my superiors and even contact his mother. If this is some kind of ransom scheme, I implore you to reconsider the severity of your actions..."
Her words trailed off as she looks around my office. "There is an overwhelming swarm of press and fans eagerly awaiting his presence out there. If he fails to step on that stage within..." She glanced at her watch."...thirty minutes, I can assure you that pandemonium will ensue."
It amused me how this human attempted to intimidate me."I assure you, Miss..." I paused, waiting for her to supply her name.
"Katerina," she said.
"Well this is not some kind of ransom scheme. Kyle and I are actually old friends, even mates, you could say." I emphasized the word "mates." hoping to catch her attention. His sister's eyes widened in shock, while the other person in the room simply stared at me.
"Mates?" she asked.
"Yes, haven't you heard of that term in a particular country?" I said, flashing a smile.
"Oh." she replied.
"Yes We're really good friends."
but..." Her voice trailed off as she raised an eyebrow. "He has never mentioned you." she stated. "And I know everything about him..."
My wolf growled inside me at that last remark. How could someone else claim to know more about my mate than I did?
His sister placed her hands on the other person's arms. "Kat, I know him. He and my brother had a falling out, Come on." she said, pulling the person out of my office. "Let's go find the others. I'm sure they're wondering what's taking us so long, and I'm sure Kyle will show up shortly." She turned to look at me. I smirked at her but nodded my head in agreement.
Dragging the human towards the elevators, I kept a watchful eye as the doors opened and closed, engulfing them within. Running my fingers through my disheveled hair, I made a feeble attempt to locate my mate, only to have cherry grasp my arm, halting my movements. Letting out a sigh of resignation, I turned to face her, her presence seeping into my consciousness once more.
"So, you've found your mate, huh? That explains why you chased after him recklessly," she spat out, her eyes betraying the pain she felt. Once, I had cherished those very eyes, until she decided to deceive me.
"Yes," I replied curtly, my voice laced with the bitter taste of truth.
"Well, what about me, Cam? Were you just planning to leave without even informing me of your intentions? What happens now?" she questioned, her finger jabbing accusingly in my direction.
"Now," I responded, meeting her gaze head-on, "I will find him, have a conversation, and then we will see what unfolds."
She let out a soft chuckle, her laughter echoing through the room as she began to pace back and forth. "And what exactly does that mean, Cam? Am I supposed to transform into some submissive she-wolf who was impregnated by her alpha?" Frustration etched across her face as she slumped into the chair, burying her head in her hands. "Do you have any idea what that would make me in the pack?"
"Yeah, well, maybe you should have considered that before you got yourself pregnant." I whispered, the words barely audible. But she heard every single one of them.
"I really should have thought about it, but I was desperate to make you commit, Camron. I deserve this."
"After everything you've put me through, I will become your Luna. It's the least you can do for me," she declared, rising to her feet and resuming her restless pacing.
"I am carrying your pup, so if you won't confess it to your mate, then I will," she threatened.
And that ignited a flame of anger within me. What the hell? She was acting as if she didn't understand the arrangement between us. She orchestrated all of this, not me.
"You will not divulge any of this to him!" I shouted, my voice filled with fury. "I will inform my mate in due time."
"Meanwhile, retreat to the pack house and remain there until my return." I commanded in a chilling tone, storming out of the room. "I refuse to let him detect our combined scent..." I muttered quietly, shaking my head.
"This disagreement isn't finished, Camron, just you wait." she shouted at my departing figure. I scoffed softly, exhaling sharply.
"What a disastrous situation." I muttered under my breath as I made my way back to where I had confined my mate.
