To be admired
Is a great achievement
It is almost the same
As being loved-
But not quite
I admire you
Aspire to be like you.
Is it possible to love
And admire someone
At the same time?
I think it is.
There is balance in everything
We’re living in
A giant set of scales
But sometimes my admiration is
Outweighing my love,
And so we are strange
In that sense:
Unbalanced,
Uneven.
If we tip,
We’re gone.
It’s a difficult feat,
Walking on this tightrope
That is the emotions
I want to feel
And those I do.
And although I love you
I admire you more.
And maybe that’s okay.
a/n: I spent ages and ages trying to write something for this entry for purple_seastar's Stars competition but I had no inspiration. Zilch.
But the person I do admire the most is my dad. And although this poem is not about my dad, (everything sounded cheesy when I tried to write about him) I love him a lot and he is my guidance, my inspiration so in a way this is dedicated to him.
So for you Dad,
I'll watch you grow older,
balder.
And one day you'll hold
my children in
your arms
and in the quiet
you can sit comfortably with the thought
that you've done well,
and you are loved and truly admired.
