The drill continues to dig deeper into the ground as Steven and Peridot are on their way to the Cluster. Steven gets up to press a button and then sits back down again as Peridot focuses at the controls.
"Alright. Bracing for impact." Peridot points out a reading of how far they are from the Cluster. "It's actually two more hours to the Cluster." Steven looks down at it with disappointment.
"Oh." He looks back up again. "Wish I'd brought some tunes." Peridot reaches for a button and turns on some elevator music. She then turns back to the controls. Steven looks at Peridot. "Uh, thanks."
Time passes as elevator music continues to play as the drill continues to move furthur down. Steven's eyes watch the layers of rock pass by. He shuts his eyes tightly and shakes his head.
He hasn't talked to Peridot since she turned on the elevator music. He opens his eyes and faces to Peridot to talk to her as a distraction from the long wait. "It's kinda...freaky down here, huh?"
Peridot faces Steven. "Why's that?" Steven looks down away from her. "It's just dark, and cramped." He tries to stretch inside the small compartment. "Ngah, I can't even, gah, stretch out."
"Woah!" The compartment shakes for second as Peridot and Steven look around in worry. They look at each other and then go right back to what they were doing like nothing happened.
Steven looks around inside the compartment and faces Peridot. "How'd you think you were gonna get everyone in here anyway?" Peridot's eyes wander thoughtfully. "I don't know. They'd shrink or something."
Peridot then gives a straightforward response. "We didn't have a lot of time to plan." "So...what is the plan?" "We have a drill. We're going to drill." The reading now shows that the drill is about halfway down to approaching the Cluster.
"Get ready. We're about to penetrate the asthenosphere!" The drill reaches a pool of what seems to be lava and it continues to dig down through it. Steven looks around wide-eyed. "Whoa! It's all lava!"
Peridot reassures him. "Lava is what comes out of volcanoes." Peridot faces the window. That's super-heated peridotite." Steven raises his eyebrow. "Peridot...ite?" Peridot smiles.
"Yeah. It's made of the same stuff as Peridots." "You were made on Homeworld, right?" Peridot nods. "Mmhm." "What was it like?" Peridot frowns.
"I didn't exist. Then I did. I don't have memories of it, just feelings." She looks down, her reflection showing on the window. "I know I can never go back to Homeworld. But, it's hard. Not to have some feelings for where you came from."
Steven leans forward as Peridot faces Steven. She reveals a tear welling in the corner of her left eye. She wipes it away and focuses back on the controls. "But it's fine! I have something different now."
"What is that?" Peridot faces Steven. "You know!" Her eyes wander around, trying to process her sentence. " "You...guys." Steven smiles for a second. Banging can be heard atop the compartment.
Steven looks up fearfully. "What is that sound?" Suddenly, a red hand pushes against the glass of the window. Steven becomes wide-eyed as he quickly back away.
