"what's up there?" giovanna asked, trying to stand on her tiptoes to see the back of the top shelf. after spending an twenty minutes rummaging closets and drawers, with barely any help from callum, they had finally gotten to the last closet. all they had found was a pack of cards and some star wars game cards, which she was definitely not playing with. she looked at cal, who bit his lip, reading the title of the game.
"um," he hesitated," it's actually a box of xbox games."
"oh! get it!" giovanna clapped. she didn't know if the cabin had an xbox here, but this definitely was a good sign. callum huffed, reaching out and grabbing the large cardboard box. she delivered a genuine smile towards him," thank you for being tall. i would've have had to find a ladder or something." they shared a quick laugh, something they had never really done before. "um, did you see an xbox anywhere?" she scratched the back of her neck. it was weird to be friendly for even that simple second. all she had known was hatred towards him.
"yeah, there's one in the main room," cal said before heading in that direction, carrying the box of games. she followed happily, simply glad that they actually had one. "here it is!" he turned the television and xbox 360 on, picking up one of the three controllers placed on the entertainment center. after tossing her a controller, he rummaged through the games. "i've already played most of these and none of them are good."
"blegh," giovanna groaned, crossing her arms and furrowing her eyebrows. "not even fifa?" cal shook his head. "um, what about downloaded games?" all she could do was hope as cal clicked the games. minecraft, sims 3, and castle crashers. "oh, castle crashers! that's such a fun game." cal raised an eyebrow. "it's this cute game where you play as these freaking 2D knights and you have to beat things up in order to save these four princesses. it's really fun, i swear."
"alright," cal laughed, clicking on the game. although he was skeptical of her gaming choices, he didn't have any better games to play. "if this sucks, it's on you." she ignored him, watching the game load on the large tv. he glanced at her," i didn't know you liked fifa."
giovanna laughed," i love fifa. i grew up playing that when i wasn't playing football for the school team."
cal raised an eyebrow, ignoring the fact that the screen had already loaded. "you played football?"
giovanna rolled her eyes,"you're literally clueless." she shook her head and sighed. " yeah, i was the captain of the team, and our girls' team went undefeated." she looked at him for a moment before continuing. "so, yes, callum, i do like fifa, and i did play football. learn something new everyday."
he rolled his eyes at her. even though he wasn't being rude for once, he thought she sounded quite rude. he clicked play on the game. she signed in her player, quickly selecting the orange knight. "hey, what if i wanted to be orange?" cal frowned, selecting the red knight instead.
"well, too late."
after watching the introduction and callum asking questions, they finally got to play. that also led to cal asking more questions.
"who are these little dudes?"
"they're barbarians, callum?"
"oi, why are they hitting me?"
"they're enemies, stupid."
"our allies are killing each other!"
"they're trying to revive him."
after fighting over who gets the coins and weapons, with giovanna beating him because she's better at the game, they finally reached the boss level.
"what the hell is this?" cal looked extremely shocked at the giant barbarian on his screen. the spiky board on the boss's back was not in any way helping. "we're gonna die."
"don't lose hope!" she tried to reassure him. she had only beaten this once, and she had two other friends there to help. with one person, she had died twenty times. she obviously wouldn't tell callum that.
the big boss starting to fight. "hit it!" callum yelled at giovanna before running away.
"oh my gosh! i don't want to die!" giovanna groaned. her characters was swinging at the boss, before getting punched, causing her to lose most of her health. "shit!"
"ha!" cal grinned,"you suck!" callum gleefully hit the boss. however, karma took its turn. as callum ran, he got flattened by the spiky board.
"ha!" she replied sarcastically, going to punch the barbarian. callum started to pout as he realized his character had died.
"revive me!" he shouted at giovanna, as her character was running away from him. "come revive me!"
"i can't, stupid!" she argued, before her character got flattened. game over.
"ugh," callum groaned. of course, he thought. "if you revived me, we could've won."
"if you didn't suck, i wouldn't have to revive you," she stood up and crossed her arms. narrowing her eyes at callum, she mumbled," asshole."
he glared at her,"bitch."
"dickhead."
"sket."
"motherfucker," she scoffed, waiting for cal to come up with someone else.
"stupid head," he hesitated.
"ha," she scoffed. "nice one. are you six?" callum rolled his eyes at her, turning off the xbox and walking away. he had gotten along with her for a few minutes, and she had to ruin it. "what a bitch."
giovanna mentally screamed. she wasn't going to let that asshole get to her. of course, she thought maybe he had changed. maybe she wouldn't hate him this time around. people change, but not callum.
